For Sale & Wanted / FZS600 sale or swap
« on: 14 July 2015, 10:44:40 am »
Thinking of moving on from my fazer to something a little different. To be honest the riding position doesn't suit me that well and despite it being a nice reliable bike, I'd like to try something new.  It's done 36,000 and is in what I would call good condition bar a few scuffs and the usual wear and tear. Will post some pics later today.  Looking for £1200 Ono or a swap for something else of a similar engine size.

GOOD
36,854 miles (may go up a bit as I'm using it every so often)
10 months MOT left
original silver paint
black belly pan fitted last year
rear hugger fitted last year
full stainless downpipes fitted last year
new delkavic exhaust fitted a few months ago
headlights modded so both light up on low beam
virtually brand new front and rear Continental conti motion tyres with probably a couple of hundred miles on both
carbs recently balanced
oil and all filters changed 4 months ago
all brake pads replaced about 6 months ago
valve clearance checked last month and all ok within limits
+1 tooth on the front sprocket for (in my opinion) a nicer ride
chain and rear sprocket in good nick and regularly oiled
no major rust/corrosion anywhere

NOT SO GOOD
various small scuffs/scrapes etc, the worst being on the rear fairing and a small ding on the exhaust which I've covered with an alpinestars sticker.
very small crack on rear hugger
small crack on front fairing by headlight
it's 15 years old, so don't expect a shiny new bike!

I don't ride it that much apart from the odd blast and a few trips to work every so often, and it's garaged all the time so is in pretty good nick for a 15 year old bike.  It's obviously been looked after by the previous owners too.

pics to follow when it stops raining

Silverlegacy-my bike has the same annoying vibes you describe and I've been through absolutely everything to get rid of them with no luck, so if you manage to fix it please let me know!  I can confirm that (in my bike at least)  its not the exhaust, downpipes, fuel tank, fuel tank mounts, pegs as I've ive replaced all of them with no change!  also done several carb balances.

hope you figure out what it is, but it seems like some fazers are made a little better/smoother than others!

saves you a load of cleaning, but is a pain in the arse if you need to do any work on the bike.  I fitted a belly pan, and found it's pretty good at keeping the winter crud off the very bottom of the downpipes which had previously rotted away.  Think the silver fairing looks pretty neat though, a bit like an old BMW.

I'm presuming a standard length chain should be ok as long as it can be adjusted to  have the recommended slack?

Standard length (110 links) chain is ok. With front +1 front sprocket, rear axle goes forward ~4mm.

nice one, thanks. :)

I've always had Continental Contimotion on my fazer, mainly because that's what was on it when I bought it and they've been changed at different times front and back.  I've got no idea how they rate compared to other tyres (or if I'd notice the difference!), but doesn't seem to be a choice many people go for.  Only just done the back, but when it goes next time I may switch both for anything recommended to be better.

These look like a bargain.  :lol

Ha!  I was ripped off then, I paid £11,000 for both of mine. :D

OK, will have a look and see.  could well be vibrating from the top if it is loose I guess.

I mean the filter inside the box, not the box itself, sorry.  I wonder if the filter isn't a snug fit and is vibrating slightly.  I remember tightening the airbox up when I bought the bike which helped the vibes a little.

that's interesting, as I have always had annoying vibe issues that I've mostly sorted.  Might check my airbox isn't causing vibes by padding the filter out slightly where it rests on the bottom of the box or something.

Just about to fit a plus 1 on the front of my fazer too.  I'm fitting it on my existing chain to test how it feels.  I'm presuming a standard length chain should be ok as long as it can be adjusted to  have the recommended slack?  Will replace chain and both sprokets soon, but wanted to see how it rode with the different gearing first.

I've been reading good things on here about them, that was the main reason behind looking at getting one.  Open to other suggestions though, I was looking at Beowolf ones too.

Hi  I'm thinking of treating myself to a new Delkevic silencer and am a bit unsure of what size/shape to get.  I'd like something a little louder and more rumbly than stock, but nothing too harsh.  I've seen they do a 450mm and a 350mm one but didn't know if the 450mm would be pretty much the same as my stock one?

Got a delkie on both my Thundercat, and a stubby one on my R1.

The one on my TC is a stainless oval with no baffle. Sporty, but not loud, sounds good having the nuts wrung off it. :P

The R1 is a different story. Them stubbys are friggin loud!!!!

what length/shape delkevic have people used on their Fazer's?  there's a 450 round and 350 oval.  I'm presuming the 350 is louder?!

For Sale & Wanted / Silver 2003 tank for sale
« on: 17 October 2014, 10:03:29 am »
I bought a 2003 tank to see if it was my older tank causing vibrations, but it wasn't, so I'm selling it on.  It's a facelift tank from 2003 in silver, and is near perfect apart from one tiny scratch on the top.  Comes without fuel cap, fuel stopcock, or any other attachments, it's literally just the metal tank.  I'll take some pictures tomorrow.  I just want the £80 I bought it for, and can post for cost if needed.  It's located in Bristol if you want to pick it up.

I picked up some second hand ones after I bent one of mine.  They were in better nick than the ones already on there with very minimal wear and cost £60 for a pair rather than £260.

Is your exhaust letting rain water in through the can?

don't think so, though due to the angle of the can, I guess a certain amount gets in when it's pissing it down at the right (or wrong) angle, as it was yesterday.  No smoke whatsoever today, so very happy! :D

« on: 14 October 2014, 06:29:30 pm »
Getting a fair bit of white smoke out of the exhaust seemingly after the bike has warmed up for the last 2 days. It's been sat in the wet outside all day but was still smoking after  20 mins of riding home. I got fuel in the breathers after removing the tank which made it cut out for a while, are they related? Don't know if fuel in the air box would cause white smoke?  Smells a bit fuelly but definitely not blue smoke.

Is there a way to adjust the return throttle cable from the carb, as only the main throttle cable has an adjuster on it by the handlebars and that's not doing the trick.

Why has my throttle grip suddenly gone slightly lose? It moves left and right slightly within the plastic throttle housing and is annoying as hell when riding. Can't seem to tighten anything up to stop it.
