FZS600 Fazer / Re: Binding front brakes
« on: 30 April 2014, 08:38:37 am »
Not all the time, but they're have been issues where the poor for of the lever has many that there was some pressure on the brake which blocked the small return hole on the piston which stops the fluid returning to the reservoir. The upshot of this is that when the fluid heats up it expands, it has nowhere to go other than push the pistons out, which adds more heat, which pushes the pistons out and so on, up to the point where one of two people have crashed with the front brake seizing on.

When I fitted them on an ER6 I had I made sure that, once fitted, that I could easily push the pistons back into the caliper.

You've not fitted after market levers recently, no?

Clutchless changes are great for when the clutch cable snaps and you want to get home rather than wait on the breakdown truck. True story

+1 for the confusion over the extra wear, are people who don't use engine braking pulling the clutch in and coasting on the brakes until they accelerate again?

If you are braking with the drive still engaged and are braking faster than engine braking alone, then there are more forces acting on the drive train from the rear wheel increasing the rate at which the engine is being decelerated over and above the natural engine braking from being off throttle, no?

Or maybe it's just late  :z

Do both on occasion, have had lots of people say that down the box clutchless will damage it, but I don't think it stands up as the forces going through the cogs are far less when slowing down than when accelerating; it's just a wee bit more of a knack to get it smooth

Fitted and ultra lows. First time fitting bars and quite pleased at how easy it was.

Except Scotland isn't a region of England...it is a country in its own right...

Think of what was the USSR rather than just Russia and you are closer.

Other regions of England are simply that and while they are suffering a similar neglect due to the concentration of population and business around London, their situation is quite different.

Although I think Doncaster is officially Scottish... ;)

Ah, right, cool, thanks. Just put exhaust back on and was wondering if too right meant more liable to seize on.

Thanks for the update :-)

Once those collector boxes have corroded to the point of developing holes its only going to be downhill from then on. However, a set of Motads should give you another 10 years of service- its very difficult to successfully weld corroding steel. If you can pick them up from Motad in Walsall I think mine cost 149 notes without postage. BE VERY CAREFUL tightening up exhaust header nuts-but you knew that already based on past posts where some of us have overdone them to our pain & cost. At least you've developed your polishing skills!
What have I missed re the exhaust bolts and tightening?

Wired article doesn't sound like something that they'd do on an aircraft in flight, however guy at work thinks it's sounds very similar to the Greek flight where cabin pressurisation failed and everyone succumbed to hypoxia: http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php?topic=11461.0

« on: 16 March 2014, 08:11:18 pm »
Well, I'm trying the fazer after not enjoying the riding position of the zx7r (used for commuting, track days and touring) and missing my er6 and, more specifically, is riding position, it was just lacking that wee bit power at times; it could keep up, but had nothing in reserve.

Was going for the tdm as love the engine characteristics of the twin, but love the sound of the inline 4.

Will run the fazer due a wee while and maybe upgrade to a z750 or Aprilia Shiver

Tdm's get a good write up and is actually what I was looking for before I got the fazer 600.

Same engine as the trx

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Pirelli Rosso 2's
« on: 16 March 2014, 06:52:11 pm »
Had the Rossos before then and they didn't last well and front tyre was gubbed after a short stint in track; shoulder of the front was soft so wore to the markers very quickly.

Was skint this month so opted for Avon storms, only done a couple of hundred in them, they seem ok, although tread doesn't go all the way to the edge :-\ Road2s will be getting put back on one these are done.

One of the forums I'm on did try and have a tyre thread where people posted up reviews and milage figures asking with  before and after pictures of tyres and speedometer

Had road 2s on my zx6r did 9k miles in total including two track days at knockhill, including one that was abandoned half way through due to the amount of rain. They are great tyres and even gripped well during torrential rain.

Rear at 9k

Front at 9k.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Difficulty changing up gear
« on: 10 March 2014, 07:23:31 pm »
Is the lever jamming in the up position and not letting the shift mechanism return to normal and ready for the next the upshift. Try changing up, then nudging the lever down a bit and try change up again.

Out both days, scrubbed new tyres in yesterday on a wee trip up to Glencoe and back, wet and very windy, but great roads. Started drying up again, so headed back up that way to see if I could catch my mates on their way back. All in all 280 miles and first proper run on the bike since picking it up. Loved it! :-D

Use a pair of gloves I got a few years back, very comfy and not too bad in winter.

Have avoided boots so far, mainly because of their looks, especially the 'sportier' ones. Other stuff, socks etc seem to be fairly good.

It's in getting a set of Avon storms fitted, off out for a couple of hundred miles familiarisation with the 600, weather wise the tyres seem a good match... Curious to see how they compare to road2s in grip and wear rate.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Siezed sump plug
« on: 06 March 2014, 09:40:14 pm »
Well, original sump plug I ordered was the wrong thread, but got sent out new, magnetic one, with coarser thread that arrived the next day, great service from them. (raw power motorcycles on eBay).

Exhaust patched and refitted, ready for tyres and run on Saturday. Could maybe have been welded, but would've meant waiting over a week..
