I had tried the TPS thing on Wednesday and it gave me the 0 for 5 secs then 3 for 2 secs which I think is just telling the TPS is unplugged. Can't wait till my part turns up anyway and the bike seems to run fine

If you plugged it back in and it read 3000rpm then that is saying a faulty TPS (or faulty wiring to TPS but unlikely).

If it was positioned wrong it would read 0rpm or 10,000rpm and would need adjusting.

If all was correct it would read 5000rpm.

Faulty speed sensor would read 4000rpm.

Goes to 10 after being plugged back in. Is there an easy way to adjust or is it pretty straight forward anyway?

Did it wrong then I didn't plug it back in while it was still on. Amature! ;)

Right so 0,4 code is a speed sensor issue! Confused as to why it doesn't do it all the time then and just at the point I kit the rev limiter. Thanks for your input guys.

On another note, the tacho is the rev counter mate!

You have no speedo....sort it out!

Do you actually read anything before you comment

"...the tabs on the speed sensor have broken off..."

Erm......that could be the problem then  :lol

As I said the tacho has been working fine without the speedo, and is again working fine. Just wondered if anyone knew what the fault code meant so I can look at it

I couldn't tell you how fast I was going I'm afraid. The little tabs on the speed sensor have broken off so the Speedo stopped working, I do have one on order but I needed to use the bike today. I have a Speedo app on the phone that I was using but the phone overheated in my tankbag due to the hot weather we've been having. Comedy of errors I know. I guess the 7000 reading could be current speed as I'm pretty sure when slowing down for a round about the numbers changed. So have we deduced that 0,4, is an over speed indication or just that its clocked the Speedo wasn't working? It's been fine for the rest of the time and as I said reset after restarting the engine

Hi guys.

Does any one have any idea about the fault codes that the tacho shows up? I missed a gear change and hit the rev limiter. It wasnt a massive over speed by any means just touched 12,500 but the tacho dropped straight to 0, then 4, then 7 and carried on this sequence. It went away after restarting the engine.

I've just remembered, while I was riding I tried opening the choke and it bogged down even more. Is that more evidence towards carb icing?

did you park it outside while you weren't using it? total guess but there could be a bit of water in your tank or around the plugs

It's kept garages, but I suppose it could have got cold enough in there to condensate.

"reluctance to rev" can be a symptom of unbalanced carbs...

Mine, for example, bogs down at about 8Krpm when its carbs go out of balance but can be coaxed through the dead spot.

After balancing it revs freely all the way to 12K...
[/quote

Do carbs unbalance through lack of use? It was fine when the weather was warmer, but I've not managed to get out much since its got wetter and cold

Not sure if anyone has posted this, there's far too many to look through.

Just for back from a ride out, haven't managed it for a couple of weeks now. I noticed when trying to pick up a handfull of throttle leaving junctions it started to bog down quite severely at about 3-4k rpm. If I backed off the throttle it would climb slowly, but if I held the throttle open it would pick up quickly after a few seconds and take off. It's not the best of days here, a bit damp and cold. All 4 pots were warm to the touch, so all pistons are firing.

Any ideas?

Haha, I hadn't even thought about the mapping issue!

Chatting to a few guys at work who have noticed that there is a Nexxus exhaust system on board, they've been asking if the air filter has been up graded, fuel map set and other things. Obviously I have no idea what's been done. Do certain things need to be carried out if the system has been replaced? It's a full system from the down pipes back!

Here's another one for you to mull over! Is there anyway to recalibrate the fuel sender? After 110 miles the gauge still reads full, then the light comes on at half a tank at 140 miles, then time for a refill at 160 miles! Is that good mileage? I don't ride like a prat as I don't know how to :D

Wanna swap bikes darssi?  ;)

I do think the fuel in my bike has "gone off" as the old tax was May last year! I think the octane rating may have dropped somewhat

Thanks rich, I'll get it serviced as soon as I can. Is it a hideous job or is it quite easy? I'm an aircraft technician so I can wield a spanner well. It's knowing what's what on a bike! Oil, filter (air and oil), gaps? Would a dose of redex go amiss?

Thanks for all the advise guys! Definitely some food for thought there. I'll have to see if I can get some time to pull the bike apart soon!

While I've got the carbs off and apart, is it worth me replacing the rubbers! I think if you add all the cracks together it will be longer and deeper than the grand canyon!

A quick update on the starting issue, I took the bike to work yesterday. It started on the third attempt with full choke (it's garaged over night by the way), could put the choke fully in by the end of the road (about 200 yards)! When I started it at lunch time (bike was in full sun all day), with no choke the revs dropped off then died when I tried to rev it or give it some choke. Restart with choke, fine!

FZS600 Fazer / Advice please
« on: 13 August 2012, 08:38:11 pm »
Hi.

Just bought my first bike after passing DAC, so I don't really know what I'm doing yet or what I need to look for! The bike is a '98, it's done 26,700 miles although just over 1000 in the last 4 years. The previous owners haven't ridden it in the last year (May '11 the tax ran out), but they've kept the servicing up apparently. I took her out for the first time on Saturday and in the 8 miles I covered to Hein Gericke, when I got back on the back 3 mins later (shop was nearly empty) I needed to bring the choke out again then it dropped the revs of completely and stalled when I tried to leave! How long does it take to warm up, and what should the idle speed be? It's about 1200 rpm on tick over and 3000ish with choke! Could it just be bad fuel in the tank, it was nearly empty when I picked it up, is it poss that I've gunked up the carbs? Or is it just a case of the noobs?
