hello all the are all wise in the ways that are fazer :lol
I am toying with the idea of sticking a k&n air and oil filter in my beasty, but I have now had 2 apparent bike mechanics say to me not to put a k&n air filter because it could make dead spots in performance and say I should stick with originals
WAIT FOR IT
OR
stick it with them to dyno jet or some sort of magic trick to make it work and at the same time sucking the money out my pockets :eek
so could someone clear this up for me please and answer the question of to or not.
I no that it seems lots on here have but is it worth it in the long run :'(

As stock, the FZS runs on the rich side. So you can stick a standard K&N filter (staright swap from OEM) in without dyno time, and it will improve performance a bit - but most of the advantage is the lack of maintenance needed.
Pod filters on the other hand are a different kettle of fish. So far, I have only heard of one firm (in London) that has put the K&Ns on a Fazer and made it perform well. For some reason, those Mikunis are not keen on them, and it won't run too well if you just bosh them on.

If everything is running as it should, then a K&N is just a straight swap, with no need for a Dyno or tinkering.
It does make the bike feel more responsive on the throttle in my opinion and you can feel that it's breathing easier, but it won't enhance BHP at all.
I've got one on my bike and i'd imagine everyone else who's got one would say go for it.

As the others have said, Stick a K&N in it. No need to re-jet it just stick it in.
I also used a K&N oil filter to replace the standard one, I only went for it because it has the nut on it to help undo it if it gets a bit stuck on.

Extra power isn't needed as my fazer is a red one (fastest) lol :lol
I have ordered some replacment smaller indicators to hopefully lift the look of the star wars looking beast :pokefun

As above, and then find another mechanics to go to as they are obviously after as many pennies as possible!

One of the best and easiest modification to any Fazer. I have one in since 1000 miles and bike now with 79000.
I have cleaned it 3 times and due another clean now.
Nice to see you bought one of the fast ones :lol

well,im hoping my bikes shit running IS the K&N air filter that i put in recently,as it only started running bad after i fitted it. truly hope it aint anything else :\

Pilgo, it would be the first time in 30 odd years I have ever heard of a K&N filter causing an engine to run badly. :rolleyes
Check the fuel line, as it is often put back incorrectly and the tank will flatten the line effecting the fuel flow and causing shit running. The fuel line should come back from the fuel filter under the square section of the frame before attaching to the fuel tap.
Also check that the filter cover is back on properly and nothing is impeding the air flow to the filter housing.

Hello everyone.
In my limited experience – stick a K&N air filter in.
Mine had a massive flat spot between about 6000 – 7500rpm when you were accelerating hard. Fitted the filter – problem gone!
Its done a couple of thousands miles with it in and so far no problems at all. I really did just drop it on. No other mods and its made a massive diferance.
Pick up is better, sounds better, goes faster - thats probably in my head though!

Better still, you can forget about it then for the recommended first 50,000 miles.......happy days. :)

If you do 25,000 miles with a normal filter it filters the dirt out and gets blocked. If you did the exact same 25,000 miles with the k&n filter it would remove the same amount of dirt right? But keep working, great. But you're still carrying around enough crap to block a standard filter for another 25,000 miles! Or what if it sucks in a leaf on the first spin after you put it in, you'd have a leaf in your filter for 50,000 miles :lol

You can still take it out sooner and blast it from the inside with compressed air to give it a freshen up rather than the full clean and oil that they recommend every 50K.
Lets face it though, how many of us are going to do 50k or even 25k very quickly?? Obviously there are some on here that rack up crazy mileages, yes you punkstig, but the rest of us are only doing a few k each year.

The bikes only done 25k now notice I said the bike not me :eek I recon I will only do 2 may b 3k a year I will sell it before it needs a clean lol

Just been searching on eBay and there's 2 different K&N air filters, D056A6 and a YA-6098. Both look exactly the same but only the YA-6098 can be found on the official K&N site.
I can find no other info about the D056A6.
Is it a copy of some kind?
