Just wondered where you guys are buying tyres from, if online?
Im needing a pair for mine, but obviously would rather get them for a good price. Ive checked ebay, and blackcircles, anywhere else I should be trying?
Thanks FOCcers! :)
-
Hi Mick,
I got my tyre from here - www.oponeo.co.uk (http://www.oponeo.co.uk)
They delivered fast, the tyre is nice and new (not been lying around for years like my last pair) and they store them properly. I thought it was coming from the UK, but it had been in Germany and Holland before it arrived.
Worth a look

Now ordered, thanks guys :)
-
Who do you get to fit them and how much cost per tyre?
-
Oops
-
I find by the time I've paid for fitting/ balancing there's very little difference in price buying online and faffing about with transporting wheels and tyres than just going and buying the tyres from the shop!

My mate owns a Tyre fitting garage, so I pull the wheels off and take them down in the car. Hell probably take £5 to swap both tyres over for me :)
-
Agree, if you give all the business to the garage it will be cheaper....negotiate with them

I would not trust anyone else to work on my bike, or car for that matter. Why would I pay someone lower qualified than myself to do a job that I am only going to undo to check it has been done properly, which it will not have been. How many grease monkeys have you seen with a torque wrench? None, that's how many. Every bloody nut and bolt getting horsed right up to snapping point. No thanks. And rant over ;)
I have a friend (master tech) who fits tyres to loose wheels for me. He has never taken a penny off me for it in 18 years, although I do buy him nice presents every so often. Usually bike related.
-
Good rant there. I often like one myself. A special favourite being cyclists and their stupid xmas obsession and flashing bloody lights, but i won't go there today :) I make ya right with the trades of today, ya can't trust any of them these days.
So do u diy change tyres then?

I've been using FWR in Kennington for years, they do the Michelin PR2 in 110/70 & 160/60 @ £199 inc next day delivery.
http://www.fwr.co.uk/product/55/michelin/Michelin-Pilot-Road-2 (http://www.fwr.co.uk/product/55/michelin/Michelin-Pilot-Road-2)
As it's only up the road, I normally just take my wheels up in the car, for loose wheels they'll fit the tyres for free & it then costs £8 for balancing, new valve & old tyre disposal. If I'm feeling lazy then they also do a full ride in/ride out service @ £15 a tyre.

[/size]So, in answer to your question, no :lol
-
The company I use is Tyres R Us in Eastleigh. They offer a ride in ride out service. A pair of Bridgestone 023's fitted, new valves and balancing for £225.

I use Horndean Tyres (http://www.horndeantyres.co.uk/motorbiketyres.php) where Russ (formerly of Russ' Tyres off Burrfields Road in Portsmouth) now works.
Good prices, good service, well recommended.

Ah apologies, terrible habit of mine.....I really should start reading the small print :rolleyes

So..ive had my PR2's fitted, and now delivered. Another slightly OT question:
Does anyone know WHY the tyre treads on the front go in one direction, and the one on the back goes a different direction? doesnt make any sense to me?
-
Its to di with water displacement. Front pushes water away so rear can grip. Hence reversed tread

thats what i thought, i would have thought both would be set so as to "push out" the water, but the PR2 is backwards on the front, and set to pull in water instead?
-
you can see what i mean on Karlo's bike with PR2's fitted:

Thats right that front "pushes" water out along tread. Thats correct way
-
Has ti push backwards else you'd aquaplane :)
-
yeah, fair point. messing with my mind.
I was sure the garage had fitted the tyre wrong yesterday till i found the "front" arrow going the right way :lol
-
:D
-
Well that explains my BT023's as well then haha
Noticed it the other day and had been meaning to ask...
-
5500 miles so far out of the rear PR2, but wear bars showing now, still got to do 3 days in Wales from tomorrow! :eek I hope it won't end up like slimwilly's did :lol
£132 fitted and balanced at my local workshop, a PR3 would have been £13 dearer, but happy with the 2s, so will stay with these to see this year out. Maybe try the 3s next year.
A little bit of an ad for where's fitting it, he's so far proved to be good and also enthusiastic (always a good sign), does servicing, tuning for road and track, runs a dyno too.

Another recommendation for FWR. They put a Metzeler Z6 on my Fazer a couple of months ago and just just literally popped around there this lunch time to stick a new PilotRoad on front my my wife's ZZR400 I'm borrowing. They seem pretty reasonably on price, but they always fit tyres double quick. They're only 10min ride from where I work and it's super handy being able to pop over and get new rubber fitted in an hours lunch break.

I use Essential Rubber by the Blackwall Tunnel and they are always good on price, I'd get my car done there too if they did it.
