:) Well after parting with my 05 fazer 1000 in may, have called time on my 06 R1 and am trading it in for a mint 06 plate gen 1 in the near future, have done the deal so awaiting getting the finance sorted, hopefully tomorrow, :D thia will be my 4th gen 1 and won,t be straying again , its dark grey with silver engine, 13k on clock and one previous owner, pics soon as i get it :D
-
Just out of interest, why? Don't get me wrong, I luv my Gen 1 but I did consider an R1 with bar risers at one point....
-
:D R1 a fantastc tool, you can get reasonably comfy too but impossible to ride slow !! am 90 to 140 everywhere :evil :evil the gen 1 is a better all round bet for my kind of riding, it took two months of riding to get used to it, lots of neck/wrist ache at first but you do get used to it. :D here it is on a recent trip up north 350 miles in a day, tough going on an R1.
-
Ah. The old 'I can't ride it slowly' problem. Yeah. Got that on the Gen 1 too! I honestly think I should do a James Hunt and in the same way he used to drive an old Austin A30 van, I think I should go back to a 250!
-
Yes, have debated long and hard but the gen 1 you can go mad or just cruise along, going slow on an R1 is painfull after a while, but for a fast blast the R1 is hard to beat, looks tremendous in kenny roberts colours too :D
-
I fitted a bar conversion to my R1 as it was too uncomfy for me at over 6' tall. Then I got a bit carried away over the following 6 years of ownership. Best bike I ever had. Still miss her even today :'(

Nice, yes have considered that too, also thought about fitting heli bars, :) the R1 is a fantastic machine, will miss it but the gen 1 suits me a lot better, comfort is a big factor on the runs i do these days, they last from dawn to dusk :D
-
Can i say told you you would regret parting with the Fazer.. Again :-P
We have 3 fazer riders in our group so welcoming back a fourth is about time.. You dont have to sit at a seperate table again now ha ha

:) wondered when you,d post, yes got sick of sitting at the other table :'( looking forward to riding it back home... :D

The problem is AyJay, on a 250 you would just rag it everywhere. A certain 600 rider I know with a 33 bhp limit has to ride it on the limit to keep up, and boy does he keep up.

Only way to ride, :D fazer on hold as dealer and finance not offering a good deal :'( will buy over winter or in the spring, bike off road end septe :( mber so not long to go in season, pity, need a good gen 1 again :(

Have to say, that is one of the most inspiring bike vids I've ever seen.
And Boxer - keep the faith. A good one will turn up in your price range eventually!
-
Yes brilliant film,,
i think that was me on the bigger bike,,backing off for corners, lol
-
Superb video :) yes i,ll keep looking, gems turn up quite often, am patient so willing to wait, next season i,ll be on a nice gen 1 again, no hardship riding an R1 till then :D i garage my bikes at end of september anyway so gives me time to look for a peach .
-
Quick update on my fazer search, may have a deal on a mint 08 fazer 1000 4,500 miles and pristine, dealer giving me top money for the R1 so as long as the finance company play ball i,ll be picking it up soon :) :) anything to look for on the gen 2? appreciate feedback from owners :D :D bike is dark grey
-
Sorry no idea but as far as I know it'll be pretty bullet proof.
Enjoy

I saw your R1 at the pit stop in arrochar. I was on my tuono v4 and my mate was on his gen 1 fazer. If i recall there were loads of fazers their :)
-
Yes i remember seeing you, we went onto inverary then oban from there, good days ride, hopefully on a gen 2 soon :)
-
Is it a gen 2 you are after or would you still take a gen 1? Where abouts are you located? If i see anything nice i will send a pm.
-
:) prefer a good low mile gen 1 but need to trade my R1 in against, keep me posted if you see somthing :D
-
Have you ever ridden a gen II Boxer? Its more like a comfy R1 than a mini FJ like the gen I (as I've recently heard it brilliantly described).
The tank range on the gen II is about the same as the R1, whereas the gen I is quite a bit better. Same as the seat range, gen II is better, but that doesn't mean the gen II is bad. :o
You'll find yourself thrashing the gen II a lot more, as that's what the beast makes you do >:D (honestly officer, the bike made me do it)
They're a Damn good machine, more for fast road scratching than touring, but perfectly capable at both if that makes any sense. You'll enjoy the twisties more on a standard gen II than a standard gen I though.
-
:) Excellant, do you own one? you ridden one? one of my mates had an 09 for a year so been grilling hum too, my concern is that the power delivery is too peaky, but it sounds a great bike to ride :D
-
Yep, got a 2010 back in Nov last year. Standard they're a bit peaky, but still pretty quick. I've added a mivv can, bmc filter, modded airbox, trimmed flies, and a two brothers juicebox. It now absolutely flys!
Power comes in at about 4k, then the big hit at 7 to the redline. Its like being on my old 98 R1 but smoother power that doesn't try and kill you at every touch of throttle.
I absolutely love mine, and it just got better with every mod I did to it. Suspensions next on my list, not that it needs it, as the standard shock/forks are adequate for fast road work if your sub 15 stone. I'm just getting greedy, and I keep catching the peg blobs on the bends.
I was after a gen 1 at first, but I won't look back at one now unless I was doing a LOT more touring.
-
:) Sounds good, how peaky as standard? i tour a fair bit, so the gen 2 was perfect, the handling sounds tremendous tho :D
-
Its quite progressive really. I was a bit shocked when I rode it and the bottom end was torquey enough for me. I'd read that they were gutless at the bottom, but its not so. Its to me like a stepping stone somewhere between an R1 and the gen 1. Spot on really if your used to a sports bike. I rode a standard gen 1 first and thought it was ok, but the gen 2 felt so much better suited for me. You'll have to ride one and find out if its for you.
And when you add a few simple tuning mods it transforms a relatively useable bike into an animal! (mid range takes a pretty noticeable boost with the right map)
-
:) perfect, thats all i need to know :) got a deal just need to decide if i,ll take it , keep you posted :D
-
Sweet! Good luck with it bud.8)
-
You won't look back mate, it's a brilliant bike,, just come out and try one.
It is like the gen1 , a very good all rounder, comfy riding position, very useable mid range and if them sports bikes come nosing, them give it the beans,,lol :evil , way hey ====top end is a monster waiting to be let loose.
I have ridden alongside a few Gen1s lately and they seem pretty much brothers in arms.

I personally am sure I'd be happy with either, but I've kinda "grown in" to gen 1s now. Would like to try a gen 2 though, check out riding position, handling etc. Any offers? :lol

"NO"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
i HAVE SEEN YOUR DODGY LINES TOOOOO
-
Only from a distance tho'... :lol
My riding style works for me...too fast into the corners, aaaaagh, lock rear brake, slide rear end, panic, wobble round and then smoothly power out as if it was all a breeze :rollin

Hi all, well my R1 is finally gone, not for a fazer though but a 2010 z1000, :D was,nt what i was looking for but it waqs at a great price, got a good deal and after a test ride i was hooked, picked it up at penrith motorcycles and from there did a cross country run with four mates, three gen 1 fazers and an SV650 ( he,s now looking at a gen 1 fazer :D ) we went to york air museum ( recommended ) then into york for tea ( gourme burger co. ) fantastic in there :D then home to scotland ! 424 miles in total, first 84 on the R1 the rest on the z1000 :D great fun, great bike, will post a few pics , will stay on forum as am a fazer fan :D
-

Similar experience for me but on the road.
A guy on a Suzuki RG250 was in-front of me being slowed by a car. I was thinking this guy is a pussy just overtake him there's been a few opportunities
So I passed therm both :lol
Then shortly after we all went over a bridge which heads into a glorious 2kms uphill fairly fast climb. Two lanes both sides of the yellows.
So I got ;) moving through the first two sweepers gently gassing it out as not trying to be a gp hero. Then this little fucker on his 250 flew up the inside.
I though F THIS :evil so opened up the throttle and was on his tail immediately.
I could not better his corner speed and did not speed pass him when opportunity arised so as to hold him up in the next 3 twisties.
At the Old Road Cafe he pulled in, so did I. I had a brief chat with this young guy and paid him and his bike a compliment.
