Title: Headlights
Post by: PeeGee on 09 August 2013, 08:36:35 pm
First time in ages I was out when it was all scary and dark, was riding with a friend on his 1300 Honda, he peeled off at a given point and I rode a few miles home. I was amazed at how poor the headlights are on my Fazer 600 (2001) a candle would have thrown out more light. Lenses are clean, bulbs not blackened in any way and correctly adjusted. They were that poor I stopped and checked to see if I actually had them working, they were. Any suggestions on replacement bulbs would be a great help. :eek

The boxeye headlights are atrocious unfortunately - I tried a whole manner of bulbs and in the end just fitted HID's which made them nearly as good as a standard foxeye lol

If it hasn't already been done, this mod is very worth while and I have heard people recommend the Osram Nightbreaker bulbs as replacements. When used in conjunction you end up with headlights that are actually of some use :P

Spooky! The last couple of nights I've had to go home via some really dark and to be honest dangerous country roads due to the motorway being closed. It certainly made a point out of reminding me how crap the boxeye headlights are!
I've fitted nightbreakers to my fz1, and they are really good, but do they work on the boxeye? (the reflector is a bit naff so I'm led to believe)
Or do I Ned to tale the plunge to HID?

I guess it depends on how much you want to spend?

The above is the cost of the bulbs and maybe a £3-5 connector. HID's are like £50?

HID's would be better but I can't comment on the difference

It sounds funny, but my mate rides home at night with a black visor on his cruiser! Lol he says he can't see bugger all!

I used to do the same during the summer months tbh, until I got helmets with the flippy down sun shields, which IMO are shite in comparison to a tinted visor!

Yeah, using my first helmet with the flip down visor at the moment. Better than nothing, but not as good as a full dark visor. With the flip down, you're still getting a lot of light coming in underneath the visor, so not as effective in strong glare. I also find a decent pair of shades keeps the wind out of your eyes better if you've got the main visor up.

Great bike but I was stunned by how horrible my headlight are. I have read the topics around this and other forums about the wirring up of the bulbs but my question is this!
