Title: very impressive acceleration.
Post by: Lumpy on 06 August 2013, 09:14:40 am
a few days ago I had a Civic Type R pull alongside while I was on the 98 - 600. We both pulled away rapidly and he was obviously up for a blast. We pulled onto the slip road for the M27 and I gave my 600 the berries to show this cageist who was boss, unfortunately he managed to stay a few feet ahead right up to 125mph when traffic got in the way. I was very impressed as his car was not blingy but he certainly had so impressive power under there. My Bird would have annihilated it but it's the first time I have had a car like that out accelerate a bike.

Yeah, once you're running past 40 - 50mph, the edge a 600 has is definately largely erroded when you're up against a mid-range type of car. Had a similar experience with an Astra VXR up my chuff on the motorway at about 60mph. Was in 4th gear ready to surprise him as traffic cleared but it didn't really work lol.

Those are the days when I wish I was riding my FZ1  :rolleyes

I did, once, have an idiot in an Aston DB9 try to race my Bird away from the lights. Fail. I think he was actually surprised  :lol

I had an m3 try and keep up when I was on my 600. Left him standing up to about a ton, I then backed off, and he came flying past me as if I was stood still!

Also got behind a focus RS a couple of weeks ago, blinged up with massive exhausts. I was on the fz1, and he nailed it. I went WOT, and I couldn't gain on him until I hit 7k, then I gradually caught him as he was changing up, blowing flames out if the exhaust! He moved over and I spotted a very small tuners sticker on the boot with 400bhp on it! I gave him a thumbs up on the way past, and he gave me a mutual wave. Every respect to him for wasting thousands of pounds on a car  that was beaten by a bike worth less than his massive wheels! :D

Had a similar experience against a Merc SL500 AMG....after a few miles of spirited riding I could help thinking my £3.5k against your £70K as he gave me the thumbs up when I passed him.........used a lot less fuel too

I've done the same on my fazer 6 against a TVR, left him at the lights but he soon caught up with me and stuck up my chuff until about 120 when i turned off. Those TVR's, although break down alot are very quick!

I had a type r for a few years, the vtec is superb fun,it likes to rev just like a fazer.totally bulletproof too, only thing stopping me have another is the fuel consumption.

Im still surprised it kept up though, maybe it just cought you out, if youd known how quick it was could you have maybe got off the mark a bit quicker.

Still fun thiugh 8)

I had a couple of years without a bike a while back, then got an SV650 to get back into it. Nice bike but got sick of Mercs, BMs etc etc up my arse on the motorways so decided I had to get back to big bikes. If I don't have the beans to lose tailgaters, I'm not happy! And these days, even the thou is sometimes not enough - now do you see why people want turbos etc?!! :lol
I've also noticed that these tailgaters, when shown that you've got the power to leave them, will not come up so close when you slow down again (well, quite often anyway).

I think Lumpy only struggled with a Civic (ffs) because he never had a Blue Fazer, or maybe he's not as streamlined as the Civic.

Just a thought

See, blue is a cold colour. Objects that are cold tend towards blue. This means that they are not creating much frictional heat, for example, by moving fast. As speed, and therefore frictional generated heat increases, colour goes from blue to red, then YELLOW, demonstrating a much higher velocity. The effect can be seen in footage of space capsules re-entering Earth's atmosphere. A red flame appears around the nose cone as the vehicle's velocity increases, caused by the friction of entering the thicker atmosphere. At super-high speeds, this flame will be seen to turn YELLOW.
I rest my case...

Very impressive acceleration...

Black on the other hand, demonstrates that no energy is present at all :lol

Speaking of impressive acceleration, a mate of mine has gone on holiday for 3 weeks and left me the keys to his Blackbird.  Holy Jesus H Corbett that thing shifts  :eek   It is red though, I can only imagine how fast it's be if it was blue  :car

I think you'll find that blue has a much higher frequency (and therefore energy) compared to red and yellow in the spectrum :P

Even the dopler effect shows blue shift for when objects are moving incredibly fast away from each other... such as when a blue bike overtakes a yellow one ;)

Lets face it, if it's not red, your not really moving  :lol

It'll be blue as it moves towards you (in your mirrors) and red as it moves away from you, smartarse  :b

Didn't your bike had an excessive long gearing? Told you it was better to have a 14t sprocket  :evil

This is why I didn't get an A in Physics - you are right, its based on the observer, oops :(

Now by pure colncidence a friend of mine has just on facebook wrote "PITY ABOUT THE 1000 cc motor bike near worcesterbut good try"  so he is boasting that a 1000cc bike is no match to his car.
Now he has an american car on the tracks like rockingham. US style circuit 200MPH Speeds.so it would appear he now has a road going version,so do i lay down the challenge?

If nothing else it'd be a laff. But what will you do if you lose? Will you feel you have to do something to make yours faster?

About 2 weeks ago i had a traffic light GP with a 6.3 AMG Merc, i won but not by much, car pulled away first as i was chating to a scooter rider, managed to get past the Merc but only by about 10ft, by which point we were both doing over 120 and the next lights were red so we stopped and had a chat, i said quick car, he said quick bike is it a 1000 and said no a 600 and it only cost £1500  :lol  his face was a picture :D

This is the best thing about bikes. I did the same on my old UrbanTiger Blade with a Nissan Skyline with over500bhp. The guy had spent over 30k doing his car up to make it fast as Foc only to have a 3k bike waste him. Although his seat cover was rather blonde and splendid I think she was more impressed with me(IMO)

Yep, they do some fast cars. The new Nissan gtr will on paper out do a bike 0-60, bit it don't lean over or pull wheelies! 8)

I replied on his facebook that it was probably a moped ,not a 1000cc bike
