Title: indicator inspiration.
Post by: lds1973 on 08 July 2013, 06:54:53 pm
Wanting to get shot of the massive indicators on my fazer. I would like flush mounted ones at the front and little stalks on the back.

Show me what you have.

If you get flush ones on the front prepare for people heading towards you not to have a flicking clue you're going to turn- they're pretty much invisible head on!
But do look a dam sight nicer than standard!

Yes the flush flush ones are shite. I was kinda hoping for some forward facing flush ones if you get my drift.

But the massive indicators are the best bit!?

Maybe I've gone mad but is the whole point of indicators not to clearly indicate what direction you're going?  So flush mounted ones are about as good I as a flag flapping in the breeze. What direction is he going? Who knows but he looks slightly better doing it :lol

Yes that, and they also double as air brakes  ;)

I put these on the rear of mine.

Bright sunlight makes them a bit 'challenging' to see, but I'm aware of that and stick an arm out if in doubt

I do prefer the standard indicators, only thing that's shite about them is when you drop your bike they smash through the fairing.

'What direction is he going? Who knows but he looks slightly better doing it', I like this :)

A couple of quick questions if you have the time please ?

What are the spec of the LEDs ? (are they waterproof, SMD, light output ?, ebay link if you have one :-))
Is it attached with self adhesive tape or something stronger ?
I assume you just spliced them in to the existing wires with waterproof connectors ?

TIA Darrsi.

I'd be interested in the stock indy's if you get sorted with replacements :)

BTW,  there's led's on mine if any interest, they were fitted to my bike when I bought it but TBH I prefer the stock units. There's also an LED flasher unit fitted.

TIA Darrsi.

They're waterproof, very bright, and they have a strong adhesive tape on the back so just make sure the fairing surface is free fom dirt or grease.
I also made a point of keeping them as flat as possible on the fairing, rather than sticking them on any curves, as i didn't want them peeling off in hot weather. They're still on there now so that all seems to stick very well.

I unscrewed the indicators so i could feed the wire through the hole then just put them back in place, the wire just about fits snugly.
And i simply unclipped the original indicators bullet connector, fed the bare wire through the middle of it, bent a bit of wire back then pushed the bullet connector back into place.
There were no problems with timing either, they work perfectly in sync with the original lights.
Sorted  :D

They're all wired up internally in a rubber mould, i don't think you can cut anything?
Title: Re: indicator inspiration.
Post by: simonm on 09 July 2013, 11:03:50 pm
Most smd's are cuttable after 3 leds and then there are solder pads.

The one I've ordered seems to have a cutting gap every 3 if you look at the pic.

Time will tell.  It's worth a role of the dice for the difference in price imo.

Thanks for your help and on my own head be it :-)

I personally love the Standard indicators. Maybe you would like them with clear lenses and amber bulbs?  :evil

Post by: simonm on 16 July 2013, 01:13:36 pm
They've arrived.  Hopefully you can see the cut marks every 3 leds.  It's not as pretty as the solid black resin but it'll do the job beautifully hopefully.

Yup.  They're covered in resin and have shrink wrap over the wire.

Well mine just passed it's first MOT with them on ::)
My MOT bloke is old school thankfully. He said "if its yellow and it flashes, then its an indicator"
I had them on my old R1 streetfighter built into the number plate. He mot'd it for the 7 years I had it like that. Passed every time. ;)
