Art'noon,
I'm finally sick of taking a D-lock and massive cable with me to lock up my lid... are there any decent/compact locks or methods that others use?
I'm thinking of just getting one of these to go through the face hole and rear peg holders then stick them under the seat when riding. Might need a plastic bag if it's wet though.

To be honest matey I dont like the idea of leaving my helmet on the bike , if you come back and its gone your stuffed and god know what you might find in it when you do come back !
I have a top box which I now use the bigest I could get givi e52 big enough for two helmets , before that I carried them around with me !

They do have a "urinal" quality about them, I agree!

I've got an Givi e45 which fits 2 at a squeeze but it's usually filled up with the trousers, pads, gloves etc.
Buck - do a search for "Gun lock" on ebay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Air-Gun-Shotgun-Rifle-trigger-locks-or-large-pad-lock-With-2-keys-TWO-FOR-4-/261187852109?pt=UK_SportingGoods_Hunting_ShootingSports_ET&hash=item3cd002574d), can get 'em for as low as £4 for 2, all the way up to £20

Me neither, I use a gun lock which I strap onto the underside of the seat when not in use. I only tend to leave the lid on the bike if I have to tho or at local bike meets. Think mine was a fiver, and I use the rear pegs and feed it thru the face.

What about these helmet bags with loops to feed your lock through? Anyone ever used one? Prevents anyone leaving nasties in your lid, anyway.

Red - I think they discontinued the helmet lock after 99 - check the changelog. My 20001 box eye doesn't have a helmet clip.

Ive been trying to find a good solution for this as well. what about something like a Lidsafe?

Funny, I thought of Pacsafe, looked on their website, but didn't see that lid bag. Actually, I've been mulling over for some time the question of leaving kit on the bike - I'm thinking lid, jacket & bits - without having to resort to a top box. I've got a Pacsafe 85l backpack mesh I'm thinking of using, but it'll need some kind of cover if it's going to be anywhere near the bike's paintwork. Also would like it to be a waterproof solution, and of course it's got to pack down small when not in use (don't want much, do I?!). Hmmm....

At race meets etc every one hooks their helmet to the bike, hundreds of them, not heard of any going missing yet, dont want to carry it around,
On my vfr there was a lock for this but not on the fzs1, so that lock you showed earlier up would go through the chin gaurd then lock anf place the lock under the seat,pillion possibly then lock the seat in position, the lock should be stuck under the seat,,should do the job.

I've used the Pacsafe a few times on a chuck all my bike kit in it never had a problem. Putting it in all in dustbin liner first hides what it is and keeps the rain off.

Do you just use the cable on the Pacsafe to lock it to the bike, or something a bit heavier? And do you just then sit it next to the rear wheel on the floor, or...?

This thread has reminded me of a mate. he used to chain the bike and put his lid through the chain to secure it. generally on the floor.... one day he came back and it was full of ants. :lol
One of the funniest things I have ever seen was him blowing smoke into the lid to try and get rid of them.
Personally just carry it or stick it in the top box if I really have to.

My helmet lock (2004 FZ1000) is right there on the seat lock. I'd never use it though. Some A-hole sliced my helmet off (Oooer!) years ago.

I use a karabiner with a combi lock that i got from gear4bikers .com. it goes through the d rings of my lid and round the mirror stem or whatever . I cost a tenner and takes up no space under the seat. Probably not the most secure thing youll find but works as a deterrent as you have to dammage the helmet to get it of (if you dont know the combiation). its worth a look.

I just stick all the kit in bin liner in the Pacsafe and wrap the cable round the back wheel a couple of times to remove any slack. I leave it on the floor on side stand side of the bike.
Its worked well enough so far, even used in central London no one has taken an interest in it.

Is a topbox that expensive, heavy or impractical ?
Please don't mention aerodynamics as I'm stunned at the difference between the rolling resistance of a bike vs car when off the throttle.

No, none of the above. I don't know, I just don't want to have the rack on the bike all the time. I had a topbox on my last one, and of course I loved it's practicality. I could see me doing it again if I can't find another practical solution.
