Title: Alpine route help
Post by: chr999chr on 11 June 2013, 09:32:30 am
Looking for help in plotting a route across the alps east to west. I will be starting in Slovenia and looking to pop out somewhere in France.

Anyone done something like this before and kept their route?  There is a thousand alpine roads to choose from and my head is dizzy from looking at maps.

my tip is to play with google maps, as you can vary your routes and see what it suggests. Disable the highways option too. Remember that you may well have to zig zay your route as there is no actual straight route as such...roads mostly follow valleys !

many many choices, but key passes abound such as grossglockner ( austria), stelvio ( italy), col d'iseran( france ) plus petit and grand st bernard .In switzerland you can do a circular route of the 7 mainpasses- sustan, grimsell,st gothard , furka etc.
