Title: fork rebuild pictures
Post by: rufus t glasgow on 07 June 2013, 08:00:19 am
Does anyone have a pictorial guide for a fork strip and rebuild?

The reason I ask is I can't remember which way round the washer that sits above the bushes is supposed to be, it is bevelled, now is the bevel meant to be facing towards the top or the bottom of the forks?

Al

I'm doing my forks today. I think its the flatest side is against the top bush. I can do a picture guide if Ive got the time...

I think you may be right. If the bevelled edge is pointed up, like an arrow, it makes a better fit with the oil seal.

If you can do pictures it mightvbe useful for other members.

Just on the last stages of rebuilding my 1999 Fazer & it's forks time. & yes, I've jammed both during oil removal, (upending them). I'm so accustomed to oil changes on a ZX6R, so simple by comparison, thought it would be same for the FZS....but no. So, is it a total stripdown on the cards now..?

Loadeddice: Do you mean upper & lower sections jammed into one position?

Reattach forks to the yokes & tighten them into place. Then use a rubber mallet & gently whack on the lower section to force it downwards. Or re-fit the wheel spindle between the two re-attached forks and apply downward pressure on it.

Correct, stanchions at their lowest point, stuck in the bottom sliders. I'll try anything to avoid complete stripdown of course. Thx.
ps will significant force be required to 'unstick' the stanchions....?
