so, just put on some new ss headers, they went on nice and easy, no problems so far.
Started her up and now the end can is blowing, i still have a stock can btw. Double checked all the joints and none are blowing.
It seems like the blowing is coming from inside the end, is there an easy way to strip the can and find the leak. Or will i just have to bodge it with gun gum and exhaust bandage?

Not sure I understand what you mean when you say its blowing "from inside the end" - do you mean it sounds like the internals are busted? If so I'd be tempted to suggest its just because of the different tone that the new pipes are causing
Mine was definitely more growly when I put on ss headers :)

Often the inside of exhausts get coated in carbon with acts to deaden the sound but once a new pipe is fitted it often sounds "tinny" for a while so I'd see how it goes.

it aint the tone, i can feel the end can blowing.
In the picture, were the exhauast enters the end can, there is 3-5mm gap. Its from here that it is blowing, that is what mean "from inside the end" can.

I had the same problem on my 98 fazer. Tried bandage repair and gum gum, the best was high temptature sealant.

I have just shortened one of these cans and noticed there is a 3mm hole drilled into the base of the baffle...
I welded it up!
I can only assume yamaha drill it to allow water to escape..
If you look on the underside of the can you will notice another drilled hole just in front of the welded cap.
I chopped 170mm off the can, removing 2 of the resonating chambers and tig welded it back up, sounds great and has lengthened the power band without losing the midrange as there is still just enough back pressure..
So don't worry about the blowing, it has always been there!!!
You have just noticed it that's all ;)

I doubt it mate.i know of the drainholes and the blowing ain't coming from round them. Its coming blowing through the gap between the exhaust pipe and the exterior of the end can.
I'm gonna try the high temp sealant soultion.

You may say you doubt it, but I have had one apart and seen it..
The end cap you are referring to is purely decorative, and the exhaust can its self is inside the stainless sleeve and on the base of this there is a 3mm hole drilled into it, as to why it is there you will have to ask Yamaha..
The other drain holes you refer to don't blow because of the fibre glass wadding that surrounds the inner can to outer can..
Like I said the hole I speak of faces out toward the joint you want to fill..
You would only see it if like me you have had one apart..

You can pick up a second hand end OE can for peanuts.(relative to new OE price or an aftermarket can)
No one seems to want 'em,except older gits like me. a bit quiet for the youngsters perhaps? :lol
TBH they do sound a bit whimpy.

But a fiver versus fifty ain't too difficult a choice to make!

Wezdavo is right they are meant to dispense water from the location you have mentioned. There is a drain hole in there. My fazer done it from new! Just ride it and don't worry

I found the dealant great a couple of hundred miles done no problem, dont put any in the small 3mm hole.That is a water hole.

As is the one you have sealed up mate....
I should of took photos of the can I dissassembled :rolleyes
