Finally got my arse into gear and done some work on the fazer... repaired the seat unit, fabricated undertray, reworked the petrol tank mounting, now fitting a black swingarm and shorter dogbones to jack it up a bit. Now, I have ordered some black snakeskin effect vinyl wrap for the tank, seat unit, headlight, mudguards etc, but should I paint the frame and engine bars (removed in this picture) red as I planned, or keep it all black with just a few subtle red touches (rimtape, levers, piping on the seat etc)?

Admin, resize if you feel the need, buggered if I can work it out lol
-
I would go black with fogged/faded in areas of red around headstock and maybe a few other places.
-
ooh ! whats the project ?
-
Looking at your shocker spring, the odd patch of Red stands out. In my humble opinion anyway. Good luck with it all.

Worth having a look at this thread ?

I'm a fan of metallic black myself. Metallic black with a red flip would be cool. (I.e. the flakes would be metallic red).

I have to ask.... is the bike in the kitchen/house ? If so how'd you get away with it ?
-
looking good - will be interested to see how you get on with the wrap on the tank - I was told it would not work by my local wrap guy - I think it will!
Are you planning on doing the wrap yourself?
-
It looks like the vinyl wrap is quite stretchy when heat is applied so it should be possible.

Cheers for that link, reckon I will keep the frame black after seeing those mock ups. The red does look nice, but the bike is definitely the wrong shape for it to work properly, it needs to be on a bike where the frame is more of a feature, like a ducati, an old featherbed or a spondon. I once had an old bandit 400 that had a gold frame which looked quite good as the frames on the 400s are totally different to the 600s and 1200s, but maybe not on a fazer 6.
The bike isnt in the kitchen, thats my workshop/gym. :)
I think the vinyl wrap will be stretchy enough, but some people reckon that tanks need to be done in 2 halves... if so its no problem, I will just offset the join slightly and have 2 red stripes running the length of the bike to cover the join.

I had my tank wrapped last year - local place in Bristol did it for £60 (after quoting me less the bastard). Mind you, he also said he could colour match it and that you wouldn't be able to tell the colours apart - he lied again.
Mine was done in 3 pieces due to the indents on either side of the tank for your knees.
Needless to say, I'm going to try my hand with some spray paint ;)

How did you get round the speedo dog for the USD's Jon? Are the clocks connected?
-
No clocks connected yet. Want to keep the front as clean and uncluttered as possible. I am working from back to front so we shall see what solutions present themselves when I get there.
-
Great project, all the best with it.

But surely that presents TPS problems and rev drops with connection to the clock?
-
Or lack of, rather
-
There are no problems, only opportunities to learn and grow :D
-
BTW, what front forks are you using? Are they a worthwhile improvement over stock?
-
Tibs,
Is your inference that removing the Speedo and/or using different forks without the Speedo sensor will limit you to 10k revs as per your your old thread ?

Not my thread but subject is the same.
-
And forgive the facetiousness but I'm not inferring, I'm stating a fact as far as I understand it. Removing the sensor will murder the revs because of its connection to throttle positioning sensor. Deefer had some of the same issues some time back and he's a full time modder. Last I spoke to him about it he had a friend who was an auto electrician on the case but I didn't hear anything after that.
I have R1 4XV forks sitting there and never fitted them as I had no solution, and then no workshop, and then no time, and then no bike, and then another bike, and then no interest.
-
Maybe I meant implying ? I don't know if it's fact, fiction or whatever I was just trying to understand the issue. My apologies.
I dunno, but thank you for responding.
