Bought a grey belly pan and thought I'd get it painted metallic black to match the rear cowling. Took it to a body shop and he quoted £175 :eek . After I got my breath back we agreed on £120. I left it with him but as I was riding away I couldn't help thinking that was a lot of money. I know you get what you pay for and it's been a while since I've had any paintwork done. So what do you foccer's think ? Starting to think I should have waited for a black one. :\

Wow, that seems a lot but then again it depends on how good the work he does is.
Could have just rattle can'd it and got a good result without all that expense ;)

:thumbdown Not good. I was considering doing this but will give it a miss at those prices or go for one the colour I want. I take it this includes stripping the lacquer & grey off before respray?

Holy crap! :eek
You could have sprayed it yourself, cocked it up, resprayed it, really cocked it up, researched it, re-prepped it, and sprayed it yourself to a decent standard for a lot less than that!
These people really do take the piss sometimes!

Just to confirm the belly pan is being sprayed, not the whole bike to match it? :eek :eek :eek

Holy crap, it only cost me £60 to have my tank vinyl wrapped last year

Yeah, I sprayed a white fairing and seat unit for a trackday bike myself. Then lacqured it. All for £10. Looked crap :lol

dont know much bout the subject but cost me £160 for my helmet to be sprayed up! not a fancy design had a stock black helmet had a silver cross put on it & a Gemini & Leo symbol on it! but then again its a lid so went to a professional!

Thanks for your opinions, made me decide to retrieve it and get another quote.......£50, It appears I wasn't that out of touch. :)

Have you taken it to a different spray shop to get done?
Sounds much better 8)

Yep. took it to another spray shop and they was apologetic for it costing as much as £50 but explained that they have to mix up more paint that they need to get a proper colour match and constant feed when positioning the spray gun at angles but to be really awkward I am now sending it back due to undisclosed damage from the seller. I know these are like rocking horse shit but have decided to wait for a black one to come up. :D

I used to be in the a Triumph car club and someone sprayed their car using something like 400 cans which were bought trade and it worked out a bit cheaper than a respray? he said the finish was very good.

Is that why you left ? :D
