Title: Clutch question
Post by: solorider on 22 April 2013, 12:20:00 am
Well it looks like it is time for a new clutch for my fazer, she does have 71k miles on her but the clutch is dragging badly and the biting point is at the very end of the lever travel, yes the free play is ok.so the question is which clutch plates is the best without spending a lot of money?

My clutch has an issue in that it bites very late, when the bike is hot the clutch starts to drag making it nearly impossible to select neutral with the engine running, when riding the bike at low revs in 2nd or higher (2k revs) there is a lot of transmission lash, the bike is as smooth at it can be with a good steady idle and is mechanically quite, the carbs are in good synch, any ideas is there any common issue with the clutch on the gen 1 which could cause my problem? The clutch is not slipping

I have not looked at the clutch yet, when cold i have no dragging issues,it is only when the engine is hot when I get a problem,I have ordered some genuine plates from America but I'm missing 4 of the plates,3 of the most expensive plates don't help and none on eBay

Without wanting to sound daft (or dafter then normal anyway) can I ask some 'dumb' questions before you spend a load of money?

Have you adjusted your clutch cable - both ends of your cable?
What oil are you using and have you tried changing it to something else?

I am not suggesting that your clutch is not at fault, only that it is worth ruling out the cheaper possibilities first.

I have tried adjusting the cable at both ends, and made sure the freeplay is correct, the oil I have used is Halfords finest 10w40 semi synthetic bike specific oil

Pity...Sounds like your clutch is buggered.
