Title: Clutch cable adjustment
Post by: edc on 01 April 2013, 09:11:40 pm
Hi all,
I tried to adjust the slack of the cable at the engine end this weekend, but my offset ring spanners were not offset enough to get a good hold on the locking nut...
Any one had this issue before?  What do people use here?
Cheers,
EdC

Hi edc

I have the same problem and now my clutch leaver keeps going sloppy with bit point fluctuating. So I is going to look at this tomoz and try and figure a way to do it. So if i achieve it I'll get back to you. If not I have  :wall

I usually use a socket wrench... i'd be surprised if an offset spanner could get in there as its pretty tight for that...

Its not tightening the nut thats the problem. Its holding the nut untill adjustment on screw head is finished and all is tightened correctly. Mine just dint want it and I'm hopping its not the clutch plates that need replacing.

You don't need to hold the nut... just undo it, adjust the screw and then tighten the nut back up :)

Ah....  the Haynes manual says otherwise - but I guess that is overkill?

What does the Haynes say?

The nut is used to tighten against the cover to prevent the screw from turning, the actual screw does all the adjustment. I've found that on mine that when tightening the nut the screw doesn't move. Even then, it may only move a slight amount when the nut begins to tighten against the cover and isn't anything that can't be corrected at the lever end, though I've never had this problem

Not had chance to look at it today but my clutch leaver had no free play in it and was to fare a streach for a man with short and stumpies. So went to other end to adjust and did as you say deadeye but has cause my leaver to come loose after several adjustments at the bar end. I will do it some time.

It is a bit of trial an error unfortunately, I had the same issue. I was more suggesting that you get it in to the rough ballpark area at the engine side then fine tune at the lever end :)
