O.K peeps so i,ve just totalled my Honda CB1 and broke my collarbone,so i cannot ride for a few week but i have seen 2 bikes i like, both Fazers so need to get a deposit down on one a s a p.Have a look at these 2 and tell me which you think and why.I do have a favourite but i,ll keep that quite for now. Here goes

I'd go for the second one. Looks in nicer condition and a better colour scheme. Albeit a higher milage...
Hope you heal up soon mate!
All the best,
Chris

Thanks mate

Thanks mate
No problem 8)
What happened if you don't mind me asking?
-
Hit a nice obliging piece of ice on my way to work. But at least it means i can now get a Fazer :)
-

Same, although 28k is still not high :)
It's also got a rack, adjustable front forks, later clocks and stainless downpipes(?) too.
-Edit-
Weren't the carbon-look clocks and adjustable shocks brought in for 2001?
-
I,ll be honest Lawrence i,ve only been back into biking the last 18 months, and years ago when i used to ride 28000 miles was seen as quite a bit,but i don,t know what to think about that kind of mileage now?
-
I'd go for the second one too.
There is only 13k miles of a difference between the two bikes. The 2nd bike has only 28k....that's nothing. "Unfazed" has 74k up on his and it's still going strong.
As others mentioned, you have extras on the 2nd bike like a rack to bungee stuff onto it or mount a box. And you also have stainless pipes and adjustable forks. And while you are at it, you can ask for the front sprocket nut to be sorted as part of the deal. They will oblige just to complete the sale.
But if you want a totally original bike which some prefer, you can't go wrong with the 1st bike either. So it's original + lower mileage - v - Slightly higher mileage + add ons
-
I'm wondering why it has the new forks and clocks on an old bike...?
-
For £1800 you have pick of pretty much any mk1 fazer so don't rush into buying anything. Have a look at a few. But of those two I'd go for the lower mile one
-
O.K 3 to 1 in favour of the second one
Looking everynight Dudeness
I must tell you guys i forgot this, the first one has been stood a long time so the dealer needs to drain the fuel system which is included in the price.
-
Sorry Lawrence can,t help you on that one,but i do have another question,i was or will be putting a s/s back section on and a k&n filter, then got told i may need the carbs rejetting, fair enough until i see the bloody price of a jet kit £112 kinda like puts me off getting a rear exhaust,is there any cheaper way coz the money pot will very soon be empty before i even get to sorting the jets out.
-
I'm wondering why it has the new forks and clocks on an old bike...?
Re forks - pre-load was added in 2000.
Re clocks - there's only a single display so it's deffo old i.e. pre 2000, the later ones had a second digital clock under the revs. I reckon Yamaha used up some old stock and one of the owners has just stuck a carbon style sticker over the gold surround.
Oh and as far as I know you don't need re-jetting for a K&N swap and SS can. Mine didn't anyway but I'm sure someone will confirm.

Mines a 2001 and has a single display with a mode switch to display the clock, just like that one. I've also got no adjusters but then it's been smashed up a few times.
That said I expect a lot of Fazers have been smashed over the years, pretty popular as first bikes I guess.
Has the hazard switch too so I guess it probably is a genuine late one, but with the early grab handle which threw me.
-
Also reference the second bike how would you guys feel knowing it had 6 previous owners also more info on the re jetting please.
-
I'd be happier if it had under 3 owners but then it might have had 6 very careful owners.. you just can't know.
If it's just a ss exhaust and K&N filter then no need to rejet.
-
Don,t forget Chris it,s already got the s/s front pipe on.
-
wasn't forgetting :)
Even with the s/s headers + s/s end can and K&N filter it shouldn't need re jetting. I'm sure a run on a dyno etc wouldn't hurt, but is not essential.

i,m hoping they don,t Chris coz that would be money i just don,t have :o

Hi there. Personally, out of the 2 you have shown us i think the 2nd is the nicer option. Stainless pipes, rack, slightly newer, better colour scheme and the overall condition looks better. Dealers normally overdescribe bikes too in order to attract interested parties and the 1st one is only described as 'good' which probably means 'shit'.
The amount of owners a bike has had is not always an issue if it has been looked after. Some 1 owner bikes i have seen that are only a year old have been in a terrible state and the owners shouldn't have even been allowed a pushbike, let alone a motorbike.
The mileage is also not an issue if the bike has been cared for but like most things mechanical, if it's neglected it will fail sooner or later.
If it were my money and i had £1800 to spend and wanted a mk1 boxeye, i would keep looking and also consider buying privately as i think there are better examples about for the money. Buying privately obviously comes with certain risks as most bikes will be 'sold as seen' and you won't have much comeback if anything goes wrong but if you know what you are looking at or take someone with you who does then you should be fine. My 'R' (1998) plated mk1 boxeye with 15,000 on the clock and pretty damn tidy (if i do say so myself) cost me £1000.

Admittedly, i have spent a few quid giving it a good, clean and service, oil, filters, plugs, rear tyre and the 'slip on' can but it still comes in at well under your budget :)
-
WOW!!
Lovely clean bike that is Lez! Nice work 8)
Chris
-
I'm glad I'm not the only one - I thought these bikes seemed a little overpriced - admittedly they are both low mileage and from dealers, but still...
£1800 and I could have mine running and looking like new, even if you remove what I've already spent on it plus the initial cost!! Granted it would still take me a while :lol
-
Quite a lot of fazer 600's on ebay at the moment too. Some might be worth a phone call or a look ;)

High guy,s
I,m down the botany area in Chorley FizzyPies, looks like i may need some help then guys. One thing i can,t do at the moment is travel to far so could you guys please have a look around and maybe point out some options for me.My location is PR6 9BG,like i said i would,nt like to travel to far.Would also be interested in a foxeye as well guys.
Regards Adrian

Also reference the second bike how would you guys feel knowing it had 6 previous owners also more info on the re jetting please.
I'd be more worried about the first bike and how the fcuk did 4 owners only managed to put up 15K in about 13 years!! I can't believe that they only managed about just over 1K every year on average. Personally, I'd rather a more used bike than a bike laid up for long periods of time which this clearly is. If it wasn't treated right while lying idle, carbs could be gunked up and the piston rings could get damaged from stone dry cylinder walls.
As for they rejetting....there is none. I have a K&N, stainless downpipes and baffleless endcan and it runs like a dream.
-
Hi mate - keep looking!
I paid just over 2k for a 2002 foxeye with 14k on it, immaculate with MOT etc from a trader. For your money you can do better!
-
What do you think about this one guys :rolleyes

Have to +1 on the Fox eye.... would prefer fox eye silver :smokin
-
Well the first one i feel has too many miles on it at 44000 but the foxeye blue one i rang them on Friday but no answer.I must admit i would go for the blue one,but would want 6 month,s tax a service and 3 months warranty but will try them again tomorrow.By the way Fizzy do you live in Chorley.
PS i have noticed that the o/s rear plastics have some marks on them.On the blue one sorry

Hmm, looks to me like where something has been strapped to the back, it is plastic so at least you know it isn't going to rust or anything. New decals might sort it and it's not the end of the world. for the price it's still in pretty good nick and is newer than others linked to.
Try giving them a ring again and see what kinda deal you can get :D Would definately be getting them to stick 6 months or a years tax on it if it was me.
Chris

I would like to also get at least £100 off asking price as well :lol
-
I would like to also get at least £100 off asking price as well :lol
Don't get if you don't ask! Haha, got £200 plus 6 months tax when I bought my foxeye 8)
Be cheeky, all they can do is say no and there are plenty more bikes out there for you but they need to get rid of trade ins to make the profit :D
-
Well £200 it is then :lol
-
even if you ask for £200 and you only get £100, then it's still better than asking for £100 and only getting £50 off. ;)
Start low and haggle. You're the one with the options 8)

I ran the risk of buying the Beast privately... but with a few selected questions and seeing the bike had been forsale on eBay for 28 days with 3 days left... I managed to get £350 of the asking price... in the right place at the right time!! Don't rush into buying a machine, there is one with your name on it at the right price in the great condition!! :smokin

Very true CharlieDee but i just hope they still have it i know it,s been on a while. All i would need extra for that would be a rad guard and ss front pipes.
-
nice foxeye here http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,6384.0.html (http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,6384.0.html)

Think the foxeye fazers have ss downpipes as standard but they still rot at the welds as the welds weren't stainless but keep them clean and a good coat of high temp paint will mean they should last a long time. 8)

Looked at that today Dudeness, very nice bike, but i would need to put my stamp on it,so would be looking way over 2k and Bristol is a little too far away, but must admit it,s a cracking bike.Yea spotted your location about 15 mins ago Fizzy :)

It would be a cracking start on the Fazer ladder!! looks like she has been cherished!! As for the downpipes on a foxeye.. I can confirm they are stainless on the pipes and yes they do rot on the collector... hence why the Beast now has shiny pipes and is going on the Dyno this windy morning!! :D
-
Well just rung up about the Blue Fazer and deposit taken :'( but told to ring up in 4 to 5 days just to check. Now trying to get hold of the garage in Darwen about the red one. :)
Just did,nt think picking my dream bike would be so stressful.
-
Adrian ... chillax ;)
No point in getting stresses, in my many years of stressing out I have finally come to realise that if you don't get something you were hoping to get, more often than not, you end up with something better.
There are plenty of nice bikes around so don't panic :)

Hi sure2ride, out of all the bikes we have been looking at in this post there are 2 top of the list.

i would be happy with either of those bikes. Will still go for a look at the first one on Saturday and see if he could knock anything off the price for cash.

I think i have to wait for a moderator to allow the photo on.I will try something else in the meantime. LOL for a bike i,ve come across.I.m going to try this see if you can see them.

18000 miles
1 owner from new
solalarm
alphadot security system
apparently the bike has wanted for nothing. Not sure what that tape is doing on the n/s rear plastics will have to ask about that.
-
Well the dealer wanted £2500
He wanted £2000
I can have it for £1895
SO should i go for this one?
-
Yea i,ll be up there mate :)
-
If it has been well looked after there is a good chance that the tape is on the rear plastics to prevent scuffs from either carrying a pillion or from 'throw overs'.
You just need to make sure it isn't masking any cracks ;)
-
He rang me back tonight the tape,s there for when they strap the bikes to the trailer, said it was,nt worth taking off for the sake of a week.Must admit looking forward to viewing the bike.
-
Good luck with it! If you can find someone that knows a bit about bikes to go along with you bring them with you. A second pair of eyes always helps for picking up things.
-
Thank,s Dudeness, thats my only problem non of my mates are into biking lol so i do get a little lonely but still you can,t beat a quick blast. :evil
-
That blue foxeye looks the one to me, nice BMW R1200S in that pic too. The silver one at Viva Moto has been there a while so you might get a few quid off.
