The muck is normal enough, just needs a good clean. The sprocket washer is not normal. That should be bent down over the nut to hold it in place. You can get touch up paint on ebay for the chip.

It is bent over on the bottom bit of the sprocket. I just wanted to know if it's the safe bolt that does not come undone.

Can't tell from the pic buddy. You need to measure how thick it is. if it's 9mm thick then it's the original kind (can be problematic one) and 12mm then it's the uprated one. Having said that it looks solid enough so I wouldn't worry if I was you until it comes to changing the sprockets and chain then put on an uprated one.  ;)

I had a couple of chips in my tank so i sanded the area around the chip to bare metal before painting to stop any rust spreading under the paint. Touch up paint was about £5 from halfords.

i will nip down to my local paint supply's see if they can do me a colour match. is there anything you can buy other then a tank bag to stop scratches on top of the tank?

You might be able to get a tank cover or some protective transparent film to put over it. I'm probably keep on with the touchups until I respray it but that won't be for a while.

You're worried enough about the nut to warrant the question about the nut...so i say change the nut.10 quid for peace of mind & if it all goes pete tong then at least you made an effort to prevent a known fault.

Black is easily matched. Buy one of those Pen thingies in Halfords. I have the same tiny chip on my Black Bandit for nearly 10 years and never got around to sorting it yet! It hasn't rusted because like your chip, there is still a (white) coating protecting the tank. If it was gone into bare metal I would have sorted it on the spot. Is it my imagination or is your paint job very rough looking??

As for protection against scratches....is it around the area were your belly might touch the tank??? If so, you can get a tank pad like below in different colors.

Also, the Bandit have a tank bra that covers half the tank from the bottom to the fuel tap which is very handy. Dunno if they can be got for the Fazer, though. The other alternative (and expensive) is a Bagalux Tank cover. You are talking about £112 here, but it is a lifetime product IMO. It's the ultimate product for protection IMO even if you have no intentions of using a tank bag. See photo also below.....

No, the nut is the original nut, not the modified one.
The modified nut is wider and comes out almost flush with the end of the shaft when installed.
Part number for the nut and washer kit is: 90891-10124
Just make sure the washer is bent over the flat on the nut after tightening it.
