My brushed metal polished swing arm was starting to get grubby and I didn't like it anyway on the bike so I sprayed it black. I also did the engine and the yoke area after buying a set of straight black renthals. Did my brake and clutch lever which came up well too. Ooohh...I't getting me closer to purchasing that pipewerx black end can!!!
I used "Rust-oleaum" BBQ black for a more satin type finish.

sorry guys...trying to get the hang on how to post multiple images in the one post!

How did you go about spraying the engine, as in prep wise?
That looks very good, my engine's looking a bit tatty and i love it to look like that!

Splendid job man, you make it sound like you brushed it on yet theres not much sign of that.
Tidy job.

Looks great! Was going to go for a black swing arm myself at some point, will just have to wait and see.
As above, what prep did you do before painting?

Looks really good, I've often thought of changing all the silver on mine to black but I could never get the results anywhere near as good as that so I don't bother

Prep??...Whats that!! :rollin
No prep or finish even though you could use primer and laquer if you wish. I have been doing engines and stuff for years and never bothered. It's easier to just touch up again when things get grubby. The forks were done too about a month ago when I had seal trouble.
Just mask off bits that are in the firing line, make sure that the areas you are painting are clean and just spray evenly in sharp bursts but also sparingly too. I don't bother to sand the areas beforehand either. Give it a second coat after an hour. Just don't get too close when spraying or it will go on too heavy and run. Spray from a 10-12 inch distance at least. Make sure you shake the can well too. Also do it indoors or paint will fly everywhere outdoors and a lot of paint will get wasted and go on areas you don't want.
This is a matt finish (BBQ Paint) and nice. There was a gloss finish on the engine originally. The photos from my phone don't do my job justice as there is a lot of digital noise/grain in the photos and they look a bit washed out. It looks better in the flesh. I also have a small tin of paint with a very small artists paintbrush that I use to go around and to hand paint any rusty nuts and bolts ect. You be amazed how it tidies things up.
Cheers all for the compliments.
oh btw....have a little bottle of white spirits and a cloth close by, in case you fcuk up!

Have u done the whole bike with matt paint? Looks like the frame is matt black in that first pic

Don't think my engine would be as straight forward as that, what with the oily sprays i use on it and the flaky paint on the inner engine parts!
I s'pose a soapy jet wash would clean the oil off, although i'm not a fan of jet washing.

I will have to call to you and see this in the flesh. Looks cool :)

...only up as far as the "Y" join on the frame, if you know what I mean. It's gloss up after that until under the tank area.

No need for that. I use oily stuff too like tyre foam that gives a new look to the engine. Just stop using it for a week or two and it will burn off.
As for the flaky paint parts....just buff them off with sandpaper and away you go.

Any time when your passing....just drop a text in advance. Have a good Paddy's weekend to you and the gang.

Sooooo,? Changing the subject slightly, how did Cheltenham treat you?
The gee gee's are my passion oddly enough, and the fact you went missing for a while earlier, and i watch CSI a lot, means you won, probably on McCoy, then went on the piss....... :lol
