Title: FZS 600 Dyno tune
Post by: CharlieDee on 17 February 2013, 03:47:25 pm
Afternoon Foccors!!  :D

After deciding I need stainless downpipes + K&N + after market silencer + Iridium SP's + 97 RON fuel it really needs to go on the rolling road for a tune up!

Just wondering how many of you dudes have had your 600 dyno tuned?? Did it make any huge improvements? Is there anything specific we need to be on the look out for? Has any one got any dyno print outs they could upload onto here?

Any feed back would be most appreciated!!

Cheers

Charlie

I think i had it checked out for a slight hesitation issue, but he did a full carb clean up and made sure everything is where it should be.

It didn't need re-jetting or anything, and i have aftermarket pipes, end can and a K&N filter.

Interesting graphs darrsi. Are both lines with the the aftermarket pipes, end can and  K & N fitted? The difference being due entirely to cleaning and adjustment of the carbs?

Actually now you've said that, this graph was when i had a normal air filter in it, which would've been an ill fitting Hi-Flo type..

I've had it dyno'd since this one with the K&N in, but he never gave me a print out, and i forgot to ask for one.  :rolleyes

He did say to me that the K&N doesn't make too much difference BHP wise on Fazers that he's ever seen, whereas he said they do make a big difference to a Bandit for example, even though the bike blatantly feels better when riding with one fitted.

Not strictly relevant I know, but check out the print out for my restricted fazer....not even 33bhp!

This was running rich with a touch of clutch slip hence the dip about 9 seconds in the slip has now gone away so I want to take it back up to get a better reading over the rev range

Hi - where's a good (i.e. not a rip off) place to get a Dyno tune done? Preferably in the South - even better within the M25....
thanks in advance.

The address is on my Dyno graph above! Their hourly rate is £60 for work done, which would have the Dyno thrown in.

Had the Beast on the dyno today and managed the following:

85.94BHP
42.24 max torque

Will get the graphs up later  :smokin

On MCN's review, it is quoted as 95bhp....but I guess that is not at the back wheel on a Dyno.

I noticed that MCN has changed the average fuel consumption to 55mpg. I think they had it at around 40mpg a while back. Pity the muppets didn't take the time (2 minutes) to check to see how this change would impact its review. If they did, then they would have noticed how this statement would now seem silly and contradictory......

"Apart from its thirst for fuel it would make a great despatcher's motorcycle."

I swear it is a pet peeve when journalists can't be bothered to run their articles through spell checkers. It's their damn job to write content after all and it should be done professionally - note this is in relation to the fact that they spelt "dispatchers" wrong *sighs*

It just rubs me completely the wrong way and some are a lot worse than others. English is becoming a very rare language...

Sorry for that little outburst :P

STP & Activ8 in your bike is similar to watching the film Coccoon.....  :b

95bhp is the bog standard brand new, 83+bhp is the norm in this day and age, any more than that is a well looked after bike!

You are selling your bike short, Darrsi!!. It is well documented that the figures you see on the spec sheet (98bhp) is the power of the engine measured from the crank and not the rear wheel were your reading was measured from.

So the power will be significantly lower due to the friction on the rolling road. It has noting to do with old age. If you were losing 14 horses of power due to old age and worn piston rings ect, I think you would sort of notice this power loss in the shape of excessive smoke coming from your exhausts, her burning a nice bit of oil, and troublesome starting due to loss of compression.

From Wiki....

"The power of the engine alone, often called crankshaft power, or power at the crankshaft, will be significantly greater than the power measured at the rear wheel. The amount of power lost due to friction in the transmission and final drive depends on the details of the design and construction. Generalizing, a chain drive motorcycle will have about 20% less power at the rear wheel than at the crankshaft"

Taking that rough generalizing figureas a guide...a near listed 100bhp bike like a Fazer at the crank will be about 80bhp on the dyno. That is not too far out in what we are seeing with your readings....so your bike is still measuring about 98bhp at the crank even after all these years.

Oh okay, that's interesting, i was referring to Dyno charts that i've seen over the years!  :)

There seems to be quite a few FZS600 dyno runs on youtube putting out 90-93bhp.

There seems to be quite a few FZS600 dyno runs on youtube putting out 90-93bhp.

You should also note that most of the dyno runs you see on youtube are in mainland europe... I havnt seen a UK factual dyno that shows 90+bhp

The chap - Dynobike where I took the Beast last week had 6 other FZS 600 dyno runs on his computer from 98 to 03, the lowest was 78 bhp the highest was 85.94 bhp to get 93 bhp you would need a cam and stage 1 dyno...  and if any Foccers on here have 90+bhp standard out of their FZS 600 98-03 please post your dyno run up  :smokin
