Make sure you recheck the oil level after running the bike for a few minutes.

Will do, do you need one of the removal tools as states on the manual for the filter, if so where can you pick em up?
-
Your local Halfords or motor factors should have them. Either that or use one of those rubber band with the handle thingys..

Got on e of them in the shed, ill give that a go before splashing out....

The cup ones are much easyer to use than the band or chain types on the gen 1 think I payed 6 quid for mine from my local bike shop.
-
If you buy a K&N oil filter they have a hex head built in that you can get a socket or ring spanner on to undo , but as ghost says the cup type oil filter remover a godsend on standard filters :)

don't suppose you know what size? 65/68mm?

I'm pretty sure it's 65mm . The one I have is a genuine Yamaha one, cost around a tenner IRC.
