Thought i would start a post to see what everyone is using as there winter wheels, apart from the car! My mint fazer is locked away for the winter and my current winter wheels is an Aprilia falco with 33000 miles. i was out the other day and turned up at the pub i usually go to after a spin and everyone was shaking there head at me because there was snow and ice... You can't beat blatting along country roads with snow as far as the eye can see on a booming v twin. The roads were clear of snow, as i ain't that mad! What you using and why?

Every day to work and back, 26 mile a day, regardless of weather. Weight went up over 22 stone, lost over 5 stone in two years cycling..
-
Use the fazer :) although I use the pick up in heavy snow or ice on road.

The fz1 stays tucked away during the bad weather, my trusty old steed 'the donkey'
comes out for the work commute(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/02/09/a2atuse6.jpg).

whats the hyosung like?????
-
Can't speak for others (Hyosungs) but this has been absolutly brilliant as a work hack. Starts every morning, has never missed a beat and the only thing that's fallen off so far is the rubber ring that goes around the tax disc. :lol
I've had it three years now. Done 4,000 miles. I get to do the service work and stamp the book myself. I can order parts (shims, gaskets, clutch lever when I dropped it, oil filters and O rings) from home off the Barrus Dealer Website at supplier prices and they arrive within a few days at work. I work for a Barrus Dealer so I got the bike really dirt cheap aswell through our rep.
I had to respray the exhaust pipe last year but that's about it.
-
i like the ferrari, ow often do u drive that?
-
Ah the Enzo.
That's my daughters. It's the Ferrari I told you about when we met at Greenwich :lol

My winter wheels is the bus. Can't wait to get the FZ1S out of hibernation. I work 10 miles away from home. Do you think I could cycle that distance with not riding a bike since I was 17? I am now 34 and with just under 14 stone.
If so how long do you think it will take me?
-
Using the" Battlestar Galactica " £500 of sheer hell

nowt wrong with rf900

Fair play you,ve done a cracking job of that, i,ve seen some of your other creations from time to time do you ever show them??
Bought the rf off e-bay as a non runner 26,000 on the clock stuck in the £500 offer after it had ended with no bids .Been standing a bit..... fresh fuel, new clutch slave seals bit of fettling started no probs straight through the MOT jobs a guddun :)
-
The GSXR1000 K7 in my avatar, gets used pretty much daily for my 13 mile commute, only if it's above 3 degrees though. If not I use the cage, would love an enduro but SWBO will only let me have one bike.
-
My fazer thou does my day to day stuff an handles winter pretty well .

Always fancied an rf 900. Stats are pretty good and gutsy suzuki midrange make it sound like it would be a cracking bike. Don't particularly like the looks when standard, but always thought a scabby one would make good winter wheels.
-
Anyone else got a bike they are using while the roads are covered in sh#te.. I mean salt.....
-
Winter wheels is going up for sale.... Anyone interested in a rotax v twin 1000 aprilia falco? Bikes in Glasgow. UPDATE - SOLD.
-
Thought i would regurgitate an old thread to see what everyone is using this winter for riding.. Last year i was using an Aprilia Falco, which was a fantastic bike, but this year i'm using a Triumph sprint st 1050 (comfiest bike i've ever owned). Fazer and aprilia v4 locked away for winter
-
Now got myself a 2001 Thundercat as my 365 bike. Great bit of kit. (http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/10/29/41d12ba26fbb5058310e3f0bcdd1b79e.jpg)
60mpg riding normally!!!!! None of my Fazers ever got that. ;D
-
Always quite liked them :)
-

bandit 1200, much better suited to wet gritty roads than the fazer...

Why do you think that?
And Suzukis rot away at the first sniff of salt.
-
My bandit suffered quite badly in the winter, ended up using nearly a whole tin of acf50 just to stop it dissolving.
It was a mark 1 600 though, yours looks quite a bit newer, and probably better built.
-
The only things that have been effected thus far are the front of the forks (this will be the second winter so will get them painted next year) and engine side covers (keeping an eye out for some good s/h ones.
There were a few reasons for choosing the the b12 over a second fzs for winter -
- if dropped parts are cheaper than the fazer, for the moment at least.
- has less power and more torque, so better at filtering.
- headlight is perfectly suited to being converted to HID due having none moving bulbs.
- the seat for me at least, is more comfortable once riding goes beyond the hour mark.
- Far less buzzing at motorcycle and urban speeds, at 40mph in top its a positive joy.
- better gearbox and clutch (its hydraulic)
- even more space under the seat.
- superior electrics, due to better alternator and loom design.
-
Save your forks with a sheet of clear sticky back plastic such as fablon. Works brilliantly. Had mine covered for about 40k, and two winters. The fork paint was immaculate when I took the plastic off to sell the bike.
-
I am using fazer all year round! just got rid of bloody car so have to rely on my missus for car!

I just picked up my new car tonight. Starting to get too wet and cold on the bike for me to enjoy it, so liked the look of this:

That looks like the cars my apprentices in work use... blacked out rear windows ;) He he.. I cant really laugh as i use a focus 1.8 tdci when the weather is cr*p :)

-
Is 28c in lanzarote but it not going to be on Monday when I'm back to work. .
-
What is everyone using as there winter wheels?
Feet or pushbike, only work 3 minutes walk or 1 minute pedal away so can't be arsed riding anywhere in cold wet weather, the joys of getting old....

air bags gone off :)
-
im useing a bonnie and my older mt01..once the salt is here itll just be the trumpet.
-
Well i dont uualy do winter riding but i may as well coz everytime im out on my bike it ends up raining whether its summer, spring, autumn or winter.......i "enjoyed" 120 miles in the rain on Sunday and i fully intend on enjoying a few more rainy rides until i sorn it at the end of November.
The big thou isnt actually all that bad in the rain coz it can still pull in 6th gear at slow speeds and stay relatively dossile as long as the revs are kept down.
-
Still using the R1, but soon will be on the DT50MX :eek :eek
Mark :)
-
I will be using the Fazer 1000 or 600 for most weather, the Serow for the snowy days and the Mazda 6 on the Icy days :lol
-
I used to have an RF900. One of the main reasons I got rid of it was that it was total crap in winter. Carbs used to ice up at anything under 5c even with carb heaters :eek and it could be seen visibly rotting away at the first whiff of salt. Bought a Gen 1 instead and been using it all year round for the last 9 years :)
-
but soon will be on the DT50MX :eek :eek
Perfect for when it snows...
-
Could be ridin this for fifteen hundred

157 MPG saving me a fortune.

Winter wheels? What are winter wheels? What's winter? Ah, it's the good riding season when it's not excruciatingly hot!
Here many people ride their cars in the summer because they have A/C in the car and it's just too hot on the bike. Only now you start seeing bikes in greater numbers. I did ride my bike every day, but I must admit some days at noon, not so much fun when stuck at a traffic light.

I can but dream of that mpg :'(

We poor people of the UK unfortunately have shit weather in winter and sometimes summer too.. Nice bike and a good choice ;)

Well, not everything is perfect, but on occasion, I like to rub it in :)
I typically do not work on Fridays (except when I do...) and I go have lunch with my better half. She works about 20 miles from home and most of it is that road on the island between the sound and the gulf of Mexico. Can't really imagine a more pleasant ride, except if there were some turns! She gets to drive that road twice a day, maybe not as much fun for her as it is for me, but it sure beats city traffic.

Yes, it is my name too. I was born in France. I came to the US as an adult. It sounded like a good idea at the time...
-
I am using this, XJ600, had it since 1989. Ride it all through the winter, coated with ACF-50. Showing it's age, but should last a little longer.
-
A Rover 75 auto diesel with heated seats ,I don't do cold or wet riding anymore

That looks like a great bike for the winter. Stainless pipes as well :thumbup
-
Thanks, Nick. The Motad pipes rotted last year and they no longer make them. I was fortunate to find these from Sandy Bike Spares who were very helpful when I rang them, and I had them the following day. They fitted perfectly as well. The bike is comfortable to ride and I get about 60mpg on a run.
-
I'm using my wee donkey fazer 600 as my winter hack.
-
Get some pics posted :)
-
it's just a normal 600, nothing special.... mind you, this is just after having its yearly clean and covered in ACF for the winter. :rollin

My mint fazer and tuono v4 have just been washed and polished, then covered in acf 50 and put to bed for the winter. My other fazer will be doing the winter work. I might buy it a full fairing (wrong colour), to give me a bit more weather protection. I have just fitted handguards and ordered heated grips...
-
where do you get the hand guards??
-
I bought these for £12.50, but if you are prepared to wait you can buy them from China for £9.99

-
The reflective strip can be peeled off if you want plain black. They also do dark tint, red and blue.

I used them on my thou, they were actually very good. Better than the ones on my tiger!
