Title: Stickers
Post by: alexanderfitu on 06 February 2013, 09:11:38 pm
On the "What bike did you see thread" somebody mentioned somebody should design a sticker.

I wouldnt mind having a go, but only if somebody knew to how to produce them afterwards?

Omf runs a t shirt and sticker business. Good stuff to. Can knock up most things you design.

I had a bunch of simple foc-u stickers made a few years back and used to sell them at the Bmf stand.

Awesome, will give them a shout.

I like the forum sticker idea, something small and discrete would be awesome.

apparently the logo for the musical division is slightly different than that of the motorcycle division (and I cant ride a piano either :) )

Oh yes, the tuning forks are meant to be touching the border..

I cant find a vector version of the motorcycle one, if anybody can I will update it.
Title: Re: Stickers
Post by: alexanderfitu on 10 February 2013, 11:43:00 am
From the yamaha website:

Are there any differences between the Yamaha logotype and that of Yamaha Motor?

Yamaha Corporation uses a Yamaha Logomark with the tips of the tuning forks contained within a circle. and an "M" with a middle column shorter than the outer legs, and features "YAMAHA" printed in an asymmetric font. The logo of Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. is printed in a symmetrical font and uses red as its corporate color, while Yamaha Corporation uses violet.

Not sure if there is a real difference, but I cant find a vector image with the tuning forks sticking into the border....

I've arranged to have this made by a fella in Manchester. The dimensions mean the "FOC-U" *should* fit above the back brake light. I mentioned a few others on here may want one so he might be able to do them in different colours. I'll find out how/if he wants to do this if they're any good.

I'll put a pic up when I've got it on the bike.

I am thinking about sizes and the placement really dicatest the size. Maybe on the front fairing, or the rear fairing under the seat?

Whilst technically true, I doubt they would sue for damages on 20 odd forum stickers. Although I have heard of wierder things in the past.

Still I wouldnt worry, like stevierst says, you didnt get them from me! :)

I don't reckon it should even say "Yamaha" or "Fazer"... my bike's got the logo on the tank and says "Fazer" on the fairing.

We're stating we're members of foc-u.co.uk at the end of the day, I'd be happy with just that.

Agreed, with the tuning fork symbol it technically reads "Yamaha Yamaha Fazer owners club"

They could be put on the suspension forks lowers, under the Yamaha text on the old tanks, next to the tuning fork symbol on the new tanks, on the swing arm. The options are endless...

Just a note, while stickers don't generally damage the finish of the paint underneath they do prevent the colour from fading so you may see a ghost of the design if/when you remove them.

we have had the foc-u t shirts for a while on the site - fatmaggot.com   we do not use the tuning fork - as Yam are prone to not liking it being used commercialy (which you are also doing with the stickers) so be careful.

Which ever way you look at it its an infringement of copyright and copyright theft, copyright theft in the usa alone will cost you $10,000 fine in the first instance, and please dont imagine for 1 second that they wont prosecute because they can and do...
I am just trying to show you what you are getting into here, its their marketing logo do you really think anybody can just go around re-producing it ?
Be courteus at the least and ask them you may be pleasantly surprised or maybe not?
I have stood and watched as they closed a business down at the nec bike show 3 years ago because someone was selling jackets there with this logo on,they took every single item and were prosecuted.

So why put it there then?

Seriously folks, I have no issues with FOC-U stickers (I have the URL and my username on my number plate), however,  as I mentioned in the post about changing our name, we have NO affiliation with Yamaha.

I'd much rather not get arsey, but I won't have the future of our forum jeapordised by people that will not listen when a point is explained.

Replacement name badges and decals are readily available, fine, however I in no way advocate the naming of our site as THE Fazers owner club, THE Yamaha owners club or the like, which as far as I can see all four stickers do.

You claim that it's to show affiliation to the club, if so there is no need to add further corporate logos to the bike, merely our URL.
If your sensibilities preclude you from displaying the very address of the site you wish to advertise then may I suggest that you don't?

I'd ask that if you do wish to have these made, then you do so out with our forums, as such may I ask that you remove the images from the thread?

Aegis

I totally understand the problems that arise from using a companies logo, so why do we not put together a request to yamaha to get authorisation to use their logo on a limited run of stickers??
I understand this might be a no go, but if you don't ask you don't get!
I do not mind putting together a email to yamaha regarding this.
Of course this might have already been done by F.O.C.U back when it was all started, if so i'll shut up and go back to my corner! :)

do we need to go to that length?

As mel has clearly stated - he has NO issues with "advertising" the FOCU forum - I thought thats what the idea behind the stickers was all about?

Therefore - do we need the Yamaha Logo at all on the sticker - wouldnt FOC-U be enough. if thats all that needs to go on the sticker, then it can be larger and more visible.

Something basic will allow for to be read at a larger distance I guess...

Just having the web address does feel a little bland though, potentially use the Fazer logo instead of the Yamaha one - granted its another logo, but no one seems to have as much of an issue with this compared to the actual company logo.

Quick example I mocked up

Ok so i originally voted version 3 before things started kicking off & now i also agree that the simple foc-u.co.uk would look cool, being the uniform type it would look cool if everyone had it on their swingarm & then if we ever seen a fazer we'd know just where to look.is the original vote thing now void??.

I think that exupnut should be sent on a pilgrimage with a job lot & a balaclava & stick them on any fazer he sees like a foc-u vigilante. :evil

I can see what folk are trying to do with the logos because it does look cooler but then for the swing arm the logos i feel would be a bit overkill.

Plus foc-u is offensive, offensive is good,we layyyk a very much!

A wee splinter group that really is testing my patience.

I'll thank you all for not doing things on behalf of the forum without clearing it with one of the ad-mods first.

It's not as if I was wording an email to be sent from my foc-u email to Yam UK or anything.

I don't suppose you asked him for the updated press contacts and site access, the person to talk to about obtaining affiliation benefits or anything else we as admins were working on?

No?
Thought not.

Take this as your coat being on a very shaky nail warning as my not inconsiderable patience is now definitely depleted.

There's Facebook connection, Yam UK, improved mapping for "a Foccers guide", calling cards, and Tapatalk insisting on releasing updates that break stuff, that's just my current  list, Farjo has his own list too,

Enthusiasm is appreciated, but nominating yourself as a spokesperson is taking the piss just a little.

well iam feeling a little bit guilty now as i did post on this thread and therefore am part of the splinter group :o .....i am 110% sure that it was`nt anyones intention to take the piss , without the mods this forum wouldnt exisist, with a few area ride outs now taking place, meeting people for the first time ,making new friends and above all enjoying the one thing we have in common.......enjoying our FAZERS....it would be  a shame to spoil things over a STICKER...........can i suggest those who want to promote the site and are proud to be a foccer order their stickers from fatmaggot and put this sticky situation to rest  :)

Hope I haven't stepped on any toes with my designs, I've removed the images from this thread. Should my previous attempts also go?

The Foccin' Peoples group and the Peoples group of Foccers are as one.
:thumbup
Locked it to prevent it going any further.

Can I just say thank you to those that took the time to design the stickers, we do appreciate the effort and the fact you want to promote our own wee foc-u.

As I said, I'm composing a wee message to Yam UK, once we get everything confirmed we'll be looking to roll out new business style cards, t-shirts, stickers, giant inflatable fazers etc, so if we can beg your indulgence for a few wee whiles please.

OK, maybe not the inflatables, but if anyone knows a supplier...
 ;)
