Title: Whats it worth
Post by: paul1606 on 05 February 2013, 07:48:40 pm
Dunno what its worth ? "2002"   22,000miles, new c&s, fairing lowers, hugger, Nitron rear shock, beowolf end can, 2x avon storm 2,s (1000 miles on them) Multigauge.  Thinking of doing a deal for a 21,000miler blackbird in similar condition not up to speed with the values of both bikes any ideas???

why would u want to get rid of such a great bike?

you flog you clocks off as a p/ex to someone on here, ditto the nitron.
blackbird is a fine bike, but it's honda bland, lacks clearance as standard, screen too low for 100+ blasting, has CBS which i hated, will do obscene speeds whilst feeling totally unhurried. OC as fervent about them as we are about Fazers.
bikes after 2003/4????? detuned!!!!!!!!!!! to give even more blandness. hold their value very well.
first dibbs on the m/guage btw ;)

dont forget its a different riding position to the fazer.More suited to high speed work .But tbh theres not a lotto choose between the fazer and BB on roads.Maybe anautobahn will let BB get a bit ahead. But not much.
You have to want it  IMO to trade the fazer.

Hehe......point taken.....so i'll go first....
Very tidy and well looked after bike. Mileage reasonably low for an 02.  If i was selling i would want £2,750 and advertise it at £3000.

I agree, it's a bit high for this time of year - but in the summer advertising for £3k should attract a fair amount of attention considering its very good condition :)

The other thing to remember is that there r people who buy bikes in preparation for spring/summer and as its such a wicked lookin bike (its blue isnt it :b) and dosnt need anythin doin to it, i think @ 3k it would attract attention. Its a bargain at £2,750.

You'll regret selling it, and you know it. Many on here have done the very same thing, and we see them return eventually. And I only know this because I'm one of them. :rolleyes

I regret selling my FZS600... and it was FAR tattier than that! lol

In hindsight I wish I had kept it as a winter hack bike... but that one is a real nice example!

I'd be very interested in both the Nitron shock and the multigauge if you fancied selling them seperately, and the fella above me that asked about the multigauge decides he doesn't want it?

:\    I really was trying my best to keep quiet .. over there in the piddle corner.

However .. as some posts do .. this one has really touched a nerve. I'm very strongly in with the KEEP IT
camp .. having lost (wasted) thousands of £s myself when going back to buy a Second Gen 1 and then even a third  :eek .  All three well tricked up, never crashed, blingy clean and cared for better than most babies!

There has not been anything out there to touch (or come close to) a nice tricked up FZS 1000 like you have there. If it's a good one it is still the best total All-Rounder for realistic use in the real world!

A close mate of mine (no names) once got himself a brand new Blackbird .. big, fast, aggressively ugly, quite bland under the skin, bloody uncomfortable and heavy to maul around on and off the garage forecourt.  I've known him use the car rather than bother putting his kit on!  Very sad .. he almost lost interest in biking!  It was eventually sold for whatever he was offered .. just to get rid of it.  He's on a Gen 1 now!

One other point I'd throw in here .. just hope he will not mind too much .. you guys all know Mike GTX (Falcon 269) he of Ivanising fame.  Not much our Mike don't know about Bikes in general and Gen 1s in particular .. not just a spanner man .. he can also actually ride the things like Mr Yam never intended  :lol ! Called in and flown over from Spain to do road tests for Ride mag, etc.

Mike is still on his first Gen 1.  It's Blue and one of the very first few out of the box in the UK. He could have (I recon) just about any production bike he wanted and I think he would have moved on by now if there was ever anything better to have  ;) . THINK AGAIN BUDDY AND KEEP YOUR BIKE !!  8)    All just in my opinion of course  :\

Stay Safe  ;) .  Trev.   The Polar Bear.

Thanks everyone for their opinion, the bloke in the end offered me £1500 on mine (god loves a trier) I,ve always liked the blackbird, not everybodys taste , and you know when you get one of those restless moments & think  about changing to something else .........well thats me at the moment. Id like to try one but the general concensus here screams out don,t be "A KNOB" you,ll regret it!!!!!

Considering polar bears experience & others no doubt, in doing the same eventually coming back to the frey think i,ll heed the advice cos i have,nt got money to chuck around experimenting

Thanks again everybody

I allways fancied a white bussa but it would have to be as a secondary bike.

Up untill I got the gen 1 I used to swap bikes at least once a year with a few exceptions of 2 year stints.
I keep looking at greener fields, blades, big trials, bussa etc but up untill now I have not found any other bike that will do everything I want and need from a bike.
There are much better handling or better looking, faster or better at one thing. But its allways a trade off with something else. A sorted gen 1 is the best all round package I have found to live with day to day.
I have test rode a lot and a few grab me and make me drool but in the cold light of day the trade off is all ways there.

If you do it you may love it. Maybe what YOU want from a bike is not what I want from a bike. So only you can make the choice. Most bikes have a place in the world. Work out what you NEED from a bike, not what you think you would like.

Oh and as for price I would have said about 2500-2750 but better of stripping the lower plastics, shock and multi gauge etc and selling sep as you don't tend to get much more for mods and can sometimes put some ppl off.
