Should I keep my Fazer completely standard or are there any major benefits to be had for small injections of cash ?
I was thinking of :
- a hugger but as far ass I can tell it won't serve much of a practical purpose (as well as not being able to find one cheaply for a W reg FZS600).
- A Belly pan seemed like an okay idea but will it really achieve much ?
- lower fairing, again, no real point I can see
- higher windscreen (this would seem to be good for motorway riding)
cheers
Simon

The huggers arent too cheap, my thoughts as well, although do keep underside of the back wheel area clean :)
Im not too bothered with the lower fairing or belly pan, The belly pan would protect the exhausts from rusting away quicker, and a lower fairing would be better on the motorway I assume?
Higher windscreen would be good for motorway riding, but some have reported it pushes the wind into their helmet and makes the issue with buffeting worse :)

If you have a look at my site under the fazer section:
http://fotifixes.com/category/automotive/motorbikes/fzs600/ (http://fotifixes.com/category/automotive/motorbikes/fzs600/)
This lists all the mods I have done for my Fazer (so far :) )

Loving the indicators. What is the legality of this ? grey or clear ?
Seems like a cool weekend project.
-
The legality of the indicators specifically? They are completely legal and should pass an MOT without any problems. :) Its an easy project to do, only took about 20 minutes per board for soldering. I would defo buy some bullet connectors to make it cleaner :)
-
Double bubble windscreen made a decent difference on mine and looks a lot nicer than the standard one (mines black). Rear hugger has really helped keep my rear shock and spring etc cleaner so i would say it's worth it but they are expensive. If it is looks you want for cheap then get yourself a set of clear indicator lenses instead of the standard orange things, really updates the whole look of the bike for a couple of quid. :)
-
Got a double bubble screen on mine which makes a great difference to buffeting at high speed, does raise the airflow up but better than the standard screen. For me the best mod was fiting Oxford Hotgrips, been used daily during the cold months.
-
I think huggers keep a lot of shite off your bike as do fender extenders which are cheap enough.
Probably the best mod/ upgrade is to change the front sprocket nut - cheap peace of mind.
My bike runs a lot better with a K+N filter - I guess that's a Mod, the belly pan don't do much but I like the way it looks.
-
just fitted a powerbronze hugger to my gen2 today looks great and should keep some crap off my rear end ;)
-
My mods would be in this order
Crash bobbins
Fender extender
Hugger
LED side lights
New can
LED indicators
Double bubble screen
To start with!! 8)

look on ebay for reccambi-weiss-com they do belly pans for £36 :lol
-
i have a foxeye, and have been advised to keep it standard, as in a few years the good and the bad, will both go there separate ways,, so future classic ? i don,t know have fun and thrash it. :lol
-
I got a hugger on mine to keep the crap off the shock,a fender extender is worth having too along with crash bungs which i need to get :D

When you get your bungs, stay away from the ones that utilise just the upper front engine mount, theres far too much leverage and the m10 bolt just bends making the bung useless..
You want the type that come with the bracket, like oe yam or R&G..
-
The mods (I know of!) on my bike are:
- Fenda extender
- Bellypan
- Rear hugger
- mini indicators (front)
- Stainless downpipes
The Fenda extenda keeps the pipes much cleaner, and the rear hugger protects the chain, shock and underside of the seat. I'm not sure how effective the bellypan is at keeping the pipes cleaner, but it makes the bike look much bigger at the bottom, makes it appear bigger. I also like the mini indicators, as I find the full ones too big on the front.
For functionality, hugger and fenda extenda are better. For the look, the bellypan is a must. But get one with sharpish angles, if not it looks a bit daft.

Let me think now :think :
LED strip of indicators added to the front fairing
LED tail light/indicators (original indicators left on)
Rear hugger
Heated grips
Air horn (loud)
Crash bungs (front wheel & front frame)
Beeping indicators (for blind ignorant pedestrians)
Stainless downpipes
SP Engineering Moto GP end can (noisy bugger)
Rear seat rubber netting to stop passengers sliding about
15w oil in forks instead of 10w for a bit more stability up front
K&N oil & air filter
Heavy duty X ring chain
Headlight mod so both lights are on, with brighter bulbs
Radiator stainless grill/protector
Braided metal brake lines (Venhill i think?)
Think that's it.......

The list of mods on mine:
Custom LED brake boards
LED brake and tail light on top box
Custom LED indicators
Heated Grips
HID Projector Angel eye headlights (X2!)
Multi gauge
SP Engineering exhaust
Mods to come:
Front and rear facing permanent DVR cameras
Air horn
Repairing the damage from when I dropped it!
LED indicator strips
LED rear footpeg mod
Modified Acumen CL10 chain oiler.
-
LED footpeg mod?
-
Leds on the rear footpegs facing back.
I was going to drill and put the leds through the back, but due to the fazer design I would need a very very long drill bit and some more bits, so I gave up on that, and will be sticking LED strips on them, one for brake, one for indicators.

With all the LEDs on your bike it'll be like a christmas tree, easily seen though and weight your way for a smidsy. Which you hopefully never have. :)

haha my thoughts exactly!
Every little helps, but in the event that it does happen, I will have it all on camera! :p
-
Well, I hope you never have to use it mate.

Cheers! Same!

Cheers, had to use my horn a couple of times to wake up muppets at junctions and get their attention to make sure they have seen me. Noone's pulled out on me in a while, not since I had my cbr125 when I was learning.
-
Try London, EVERYONE pulls out on you!! :'(
-
Excatly. I use the horn 3-4 times a journey.

Hi all
I don't know if this is a relevant advice for the main question.
On my former bike that was a FZS600, I only changed a bit of thing everyone related to the ride safety:
- brake pads (SBS RS)
- brake master cylinder (a new NISSIN radial unit)
- brake pipeline/hoses (steel mesh)
- shock dampers (FG Gubellini front fork upgrade and rear complete replace unit)
The bike has really changed its character, can believe me. The little Fazer could swallow the dust to many supersport in curvy roads.
-
So far on my '99:
-LED miniblinkers, with proper spacers and relay
-Bi-Xenon headlights (the low beam adapter was a f*cker, ended up making one at Uni with a 3d-printer)
-LED rear/brake light bulbs (in original housing though, don't shine much on the plates)
-Delkevic downpipes
-Scorpion Exhaust slip-on :evil
-Painted from original candy red (had been very abused by the elements: previous owner had it sitting year-round on the front lawn :eek ) to matte white + new decals
-Blue LED instrument lights
-K&N air filter
-Carbon look hugger
-Carbon fibre yoke cover
Don't really know what to do next.

very nice Foxwood! Looks Great!
Did you have any trouble with fitting the delkevic downpipes or did they line up ok?

Thanks Chris!
Nothing a small rubber mallet didn't fix. Had more trouble taking off the old rusted-through ones. :)

If you ride in crap weather, a fender extenda and hugger makes a hell of a difference. Wish I fitted mine earlier. Not the most glamorous but very practical. Re hugger, try getting one that extends downwards aswell, it will give added protection to the linkage and shock. Pyramid do these but there are others.
Suspension. If on a budget, even just changing the fork springs will make a big difference. Sorting out the back end usually gets expensive though.
Better bulbs (or any other headlight upgrade) especially on the square eye. Led bulbs in the clocks is a easy and cheap upgrade. A Good screen is handy in the winter.
Other than aesthetics, don't see much benefit of lower fairings or belly pan. Better off with some sort of crash protection.
+ lots of others! One you start you can't stop!
-
These are the total so far: Pyramid Fenda Extenda and Yamaha engine bars :-)
Ugly, but functional.
Any idea how much it would cost to respray a Fazer 600 ?
Cheers
Simon

I had mine done for 280€, but that was with me unbolting the fairings and tank, then reinstalling them after they had been sprayed. A pretty moderate price hereabouts. Don't know what it would cost in the UK though.

Looking really good, however you should really get those Xenons in projectors housings, they will be blinding other drivers!

Thanks alexanderfitu. You're right I really should get them in to projector housings, but I'm not too good with doing electrical work and haven't got the assets to buy a new kit. Haven't had the police stop me yet and I've managed to adjust the beams so that they don't blind oncoming traffic or cars in front of me. Besides it seems to get me noticed better as they are.
What model is that Scorpion can, Foxwood??
It's the basic stainless steel round model from last year. (http://www.scorpion-exhausts.com/product-details.html?autoid=791 (http://www.scorpion-exhausts.com/product-details.html?autoid=791))
Can't remember where I ordered it from, but def not straight from the factory. It wasn't the cheapest either, but if I remember correctly it was the cheapest CE -certified can I could find at the time. Haven't had the db-killer on it at all, gives a nice low rumble at idle and low revs. And crackles nicely after releasing the throttle when doing a harder acceleration. All in all, been very pleased with it.
Edit: My English seems to be getting worse and worse :lol
