Better there than on the road :D
-
I love my C90.
-
is that a rack from a pushbike on your cub?
I can't hate scootists as I used be one but I was never one for using the cycle lane at the lights, I hate seeing them do that.
And that hand should have "European Union" written on it
-

Nope it's a C90 accessory
-
scooters are like fat birds.
fun to ride, but you wouldnt tell your mates!!!
-
I don't mind scooters they are a two wheel cousin in my eyes certainly don't hate them, I did have an R1 but much prefer my Fazer bit like fat birds I like my women and bikes built for comfort rather than speed, but if the situation requires you can give them both a spanking
-
I started on a 125 scooter i went every where on trixie, she did well helping to get my confidance back after some so called instructor ruined it with his so called cbt that consisted of shouting and be littleling me. Needless to say i stopped the 1st cbt, got my money back and reported the school!!!. :eek :eek :eek

I don't hate scooters at all........just some of the muppets that ride them.
There are 3 types of scooter rider IMO:
1. Loons - Generally in the younger catagory who ride their scooters like they stole them (and some have) and create noise and havoc where ever they go. Identifiable by the converse trainers, tracky top, no gloves and a B&Q bucket for a lid
2. Middle-aged Muppets - middle aged men/women, generally with no prior bike experience using their scooters as cheap transport. Easily identified by open face helmets and lack of any appropriate protective clothing
3. Scooter/bikers - Rare and dying breed of "bikers" who are either using their scooters to move onto a bigger bike or have been there and done it so trying something different. Generally look the part (with some even in full leathers :lol ), and ride appropriately.
Is there another catagory?
-
4. Peter Pans. Those who owned a Lambretta/Vespa back in the days of Quadrophenia, trying to recapture their youth whilst holding the opinion that biking hasn't moved on since drum brakes and wax jackets.
I had a scooter, it was a laugh at the time but I won't hit 40 and want to go waste money buying one.
-
I only rode a scooter for the first time last year when I was in Thailand - they were a hoot.
My favourite bit was when we were riding around the one-way system in Patong when it was heaving it down - all the locals disappeared and we had the road to ourselves.
We got a bit wet of course, but who cares :D Mind you, my glasses did steam up a bit
-
I've had bikes from being 16, 31 years ago and I've enjoyed most of them however out of all of them the C90 makes me smile the most, the most smiles per mile bike I've ever owned.

Bit narrow minded isn't it? Surely all two wheelers are in the same boat when it comes to using the roads?
As for hating scooters - what would you say if all scooters hated leather clad power rangers? Or the GS owning biker clad in camo gear that has never ridden anywhere other than to the office and back?
Not much two wheeled camaradarie going on here is there.
You are also uninformed seeing as scooters first became popular as a fashion ride in the 60's and Quadrophenia the film wasn't released until 1979. Plenty of 1960's scooterist still riding these days, several on bikes they have owned from new.
I started on scooters in the late 70's and still own one now - which I haven't wasted money on seeing as would cost over £5k at today's rates and has only appreciated in the last 5 years - not bad for a bike that cost about £116 when new, how many cars or bikes can say that?
Seeing as I also own or have owned some of the highest performing superbikes going I don't fall into the catagory that you suggest all classic scooter owners do - those who believe that drum brakes are still the latest thing.
In fact many classic scooters are now modified with high performance hydraulic disk brakes, it is a very common upgrade and available in most scooter shops.
Personally I find that people who pigeonhole others are usually those with narrow minds and unchangeable attitudes - the very qualities which lead to becoming a stereotype in the first place.

DryRob is only stating his opinion and don't think he is being narrow minded like you are stating especially as he has had the experience of owning one....it is amusing defending scooters on a Fazer Forum though.
-
What I find amusing is that you think that scooters have to be "defended"
Why?

my 1st foray into motoring was a honda cub50 was brilliant even though i got told off by Mr Plod within 2 hours of owning it. the ink on my insurance wasn't even dry!!
then during the miners strike it was great fun I took the baffles out the fairing off and 2up on L plates went to pub where all the off duty coppers were drinking!
next was a Yamaha 75 automatic again great fun. I left it at my parents house when I went away with the navy only to find out when I got back that it had been donated to a local scout group who used the wheels for a trailer and the engine for them to learn basic mechanics on it!!
& yes I nod at the ones I pass (except the ones riden by 'Erberts!)
lots of 16/17 yo in cornwall have them as they are cheap form of transport to get to college/jobs etc without having to rely on parents been taxi's and the fact that some rural areas have bad public transport (our village has 3 buses a day but nearest bus stop from our house is still 1/2 mile away!! & it gives them road sense before they start to try & afford driving lessons or cant afford a car because of insurance.
Would I have one again? yeah why not be ideal to pop to the shop for pint of milk etc rather than getting the cage fired up for the mile each way to the shop!
-
Nah cant hate them, they have 2 wheels and an engine :D good starting point to biking, years n years ago l had an Aprilla SR125 noisey, not cheap to insure and thirsty for what it was but fast as fook, do 80mph any day and handled well :eek
-
Posted this on the VFR site when I had one, it's something I used to think about from time to time especially when I first got the 90.
To me a bike is a bike is a bike, if someone going the other way nods I nod back, it's what I've always done.
Bloody amazing how which bike you ride seems to make a difference, if I go out on the C90 I can nod my head off and hardly anyone bothers to nod back, go out on the VFR and it's no prob, a quick nod will get one back 9 times out of 10.
WHY?
-
Bit narrow minded isn't it? Surely all two wheelers are in the same boat when it comes to using the roads?
was a joke :pokefun

Intolerence of others isn't funny, you might make what you feel is a throw away comment and another person hearing it thinks 'Yeah, I'm going to go out and kick some scooters over'
Apply that to race or sexual orientation and you'll find those types of 'joke' are against the law - for good reason.
-
I don't think they are against the law.
If they were actually inciting someone to go out and kick a scooter over, then yeah sure - but otherwise no.
There is no good reason for peoples' opinions to be against the law. ACTING on them is a different story.

I think you're mixing intolerance up with prejudice, I have not said anywhere that I oppose the use of scooters on the road.
What you said about sports bike and GS riders was equally as prejudiced as what I said about scooter riders and by your logic I should now go kick some bikes over. Whatever you do, please don't mention a Harley Davidson stereotype because I don't want to knock over the bike of a drug dealing gangbanger with a heart of gold (if sons of anarchy is to be believed).

Intolerent and quick to react with insults - you really are quite a catch aren't you!
To be honest I didn't think you'd cave in quite so quickly and resort to slinging mindless insults, but then again, I shouldn't have tried to have a battle of wits with an unarmed lad.

Point I was trying to make is regarding intolerence - this site would not stand for someone saying all brown skinned people are so and so's etc - which if said or written, is against the law in this country, racism is quite clearly illegal.
If you choose to express your opinion then you must take responsibility for it and it is illegal to make racist comments - that was my point and using that to compare it to the intolerence being shown in this thread for other two wheeled road users.
Extreme views are never good and neither is pigeon holing people, especially when the person doing it is so uninformed as one or two of the posters on here are about the subject of scooterists.

You need to re-read that post, at no point have I made comments stereotyping any user of two wheels - I asked you how you would feel if similar comments like those I exampled were said about another type of two wheeled preference.
There is a clear difference between an example being given and actual predjudice being shown.

There, by your criteria that must be illegal yes?

This thread was quite light hearted fun until budgieboy waded in like Victor Meldrew on steroids with his own wild accusations and opinions......mind you, saying that it turned out to be very entertaining......try and read his comments back in aVictor impersonation. :lol

Usually bully tactic of saying 'its only a bit of lighthearted fun' - very predictable.
Who's a stalker? I think it might be you set by your own dubious 'standards' - read back through the thread you silly boy, you responded to a post I made to DryRob - another bully tactic - blame others for things you do.
You are just getting tripped up at every turn aren't you,? Please carry on, it's entertaining to see how stupid you can make yourself look.
What's the problem with sounding like Biggins sweetie pie?
You're just a treat to know aren't you...

Piaggio, the man who built the Vespa, hated motorcycles. He wanted a cheap 2 wheeled car. This is what scooters are, so I hate them too.

Budgieboy still twittering on, now we all know where your name came from....you should learn to read properly and enjoy an open forum. You have to remember it was you that started on quite a few posters on here judging people with your high and mighty views.....why don't you get down off your high horse and preach your shite somewhere else....no one cares....end of

Can't I be both? You're showing your [forum] age here dude, there is nothing on here that is sacrosanct. You could be discussing the ongoing political issues in the middle east and it would still be fair game.
You don't bite very hard do you?
