Title: FZS600 exhaust problem
Post by: Sinbad on 02 February 2013, 10:10:53 am
Hi,

I have a small problem with the exhaust on myFZS600, when I last serviced it I noticed thst the exhaust didn't sound right. On closer examination I noticed that some of the fumes were exiting from the base of the can by the link pipe. Is there a way  to repair this other than replacing the can? also is the link pipe permanently attached to the can on the stock exhaust or can it be detatched?

Thanks

It's probably just the gasket between the exhaust can and the link pipe. You should be able to separate them and replace the gasket which is pretty cheap if memory serves :)

The standard silencer has the short link pipe as an integral part. The internals are not stainless so holes develop and gases escape around the inlet end of the silencer.
I bodged mine by squeezing high temperature silicone into the gap between the stainless steel flange and the link pipe... it lasted a few years like that.

ive had this problem on two standard cans upto now......gap between can and link pipe  ;) ....the high tempture silicone is the only solution,if your carefull you can produce  a good finish that dos`nt look bodged,i used masking tape for a neat finish :)

Thanks for the info guys, thought the link pipe was attached  :(. Am now watching a couple of second hand cans on ebay, although tempted to spend a bit more for a beowulf  ;) failing that I will try the silicone sealant.

I have a Beowulf Warrior and it is a lovely sounding exhaust. Quite deep compared to some others and also fairly loud with the baffle out. I've never been pulled over for it though - can't wait to get it re-attached and listen to that lovely noise  :D

Linky? I'd like to take a look.

I'm in the market for a new can, as mine is also leaking.
