I think my fuel pump is dead, no clicking, obvious signs of fuel starvation. Bike just spluttered and died on monday so I had a fiddle under the tank and the bike starts and runs ok bypassing the pump but it needs a pump as flow alone isnt enough, splutters and dies if run too long, yestaurday I broke down in the blackwall tunnel(yes that was me...sorry! :o ) Ive been getting away with rocking/dry humping the bike and it whould fire back up but not in the tunnel(typical)! Has anyone got a spare in the dartford area? Or do you think it might be a relay issue? Ringing around breakers atm.
-
Relay is easy to test, just bridge the terminals on the socket or wire 12v straight to the pump. You should hear the relay click on when you turn the key as well.
I would test that first, as its a cheap part.

There's a couple on Ebay if you do end up needing one.

Cheers for the replys, I can hear a click when I turn the ignition on around the battery area so I presume thats the relay ok? Currently off work because of this, need to get one asap (courier) :\ Theres a guy breaking a 900 diversion near me, think that fuel pump will do?

This is well handy for you that i just found, it lists the bikes below :)

**** THE CODES CHANGE WHEN YOU SELECT DIFFERENT BIKES SO THIS MAY NEED CHECKING OUT ****

test the pump by connecting straight to battery bypassing the relay, with no fuel in it it should click like mad :eek :eek

Sure that wont damage the pump internals red?

a short burst should be ok,.......just like running out of fuel :rolleyes :rolleyes :rolleyes

The fuel pump action is regulated internally, you can give it 12v all day and it will click 3-4 times until it builds up pressure and thats it :)
-
If you do connect direct to the battery make sure you have the polarity right or you will instanly blow a diode that's in there.
-
Shouldnt do, thats what the diode is for :) Reverse current protection :)

Thanks for the replys all, well turns out the fuel pump had gone (comfirmed with the battery test). Bought a xj900 pump today, fitted fine in the rubber sleeve but has one pipe at a 90deg angle so the piping is abit tight. Just come back from a ride and bike is running fine now! :)
-
Glad to hear it's sorted
