Thinking of buying a plate for my bike.
Questions is how would you read this:

I know some people think they are tacky etc, I like em however :)
-
Yeah, they're not for me, I'd rather spend my money on other things for the bike, but each to their own.
-
Fair enough. It will be when there are no other things to buy for the bike :)
-
to me it reads nothing. al3x mf would be better imo

-

not trying to be picky.....but wouldn't that be termed illegal and "encourage" a tug by the police?
-
hmm thats a good one, dont think I can have a new style plate though, as its a Y reg :(

True but its just the spacing, have one simliair on my car and am never pulled for it.
-
You've been lucky, they're getting stricter about it.
-
Meh, not around london with all the plod job cuts, its no points either way :(

y plate is march- august 2001 so MY 01 FZS. its the new style and incorporates the yr ur bike was first registered. it will be allowed.try typin it into the licence plate website and it prob cost u 6-800 quid.
-
my01 fzs already taken, but my51 available, but then I cant have.
I like the idea of having a bike specific one, not going to spend more than 250 on it though!
-
god ur difficult to pleezel. u sure u not my mrs :lol
-
haha! I am if in spending money :)
Edit: NVM girlfriend just said when it comes to bikes/cars you are bloody picky lol
-
Take cheer all lawbreakers out there...latest figures show we now have fewer police than ever !
please please mr criminals, burgle top tory houses ...and see how long plod takes to come !
-
With bike plates the last three letters have to be on a separate line to the number, its not just spacing.
On my Mrs car we had a plate that is K4F OB when the spacing should be K4 FOB. Only got tugged once for it and currently have the standard one on for the MOT from last year still. Its just not worth the agro of drawing attention to yourself these days.

General consusus -waste of time :P
Oh well, good to know though, I will get back to my HUD motorbike helmet project :)

The DVLA site goes from 51. Are you sure about this?
-
I have just had a look at the wiki page for uk numberplates, and apparently the new style plates came in September 2001, so I couldnt have a new style either way

I was just about to mention this! 51 (sept 2001) was when new plates came in
I remember when i had just bought my F650 and my bro had new car with a "personalised" plate P444PKR and was bragging bout it. I pointed out my reg N608ARB was a personalised , he said whats different bout that.... I just said well my bike only vehicle with that number on it!!! lol
:rollin :rollin

My FireBlade had a postbox style number plate and i was always getting pulled. One copper followed me for 4 miles with his Blues and Two's on before i stopped, i couldn't believe it.
In the end i put the original on, £150 in fines from 3 pulls.I only fit standard plates now?

It would still be a standard size, just inventive spacing :)
-
As I recall ... It's another £80.00 to pay to the DVLA every time you change your bike :(
£80 worth of pop would fill the average tank .. well almost :lol
I have had a couple of bikes that lots of people want to photograph .. including Spanish & French Police .. a Special BMW R1200 c Montauk. Mark Grinnall Trike and now my 2008 Honda CB1300s HP EZS Sports Sidecar outfit .. The Spanish Dancer.
If ever the camera man is talking serious .. or the bike is in a show (I've won a couple of Best Bike awards :)
I carry (in the boot) a laminated card plate ABC 123 that sticks onto the real plate .. looks cool, gives nothing away and people seem to really like it :b End of shift .. it's all Bull Stuff Boys and Toys :rolleyes
Stay Safe Y'all . Trev The Polar Bear (By the way .. ABC 123 = A Bike Conversion with 1. 2. 3 Wheels :\ )

Imo it's not worth cocking around with spacing/font/screw caps etc. It doesn't make it look nicer, it's still just a number plate.
-
Just the spacing. No buggering about with screw caps or stupid fonts they annoy me too !
-
Spacing is still an issue. Mate of mine (well, his mrs) got pulled for it a while back so he went back to standard plates.
-
True, only going by my experience on the car.
Meh Ill probably just put the money into a recon hud live
-
I saw a bike with the plate of A1 6UNT, the six was opened slightly, even a bike cop laughed at it. I never saw if a fine was given though?
Mickey
-
I must be a bit thick, but what you trying to say? when I got my bike got a list to pick from so got 6 FZ as part of the reg as **06 F*Z
-
It's meant to say Alex mf :)
-
If you like it - do it! We've got a couple in the family.
Although as Bob pointed out it's totally wrong format for a square plate so will probably attract old bills attention.
-
Quote "not going to spend more than £250 on it though!" :rolleyes
Save your money + other expenses. Put it towards a newer bike/gear/anything but a plate. Waste of money. (IMO)
Something tangable, fondle etc. ;)
-
lol @ the fondle, I have come to that conculsion as well :)
-
You can't make your bike look newer than it is with a private plate so anything Y or before is ok, anything after is a no go.
