Well after five years and five winters 4 bikes and 85k miles later i now own a car :rolleyes
Strange as i'm more paranoid about crashing the car in this weather and i felt safer on the bike :eek
So i'm now in the fair weather bikers club :D my fazer 03 will be getting a full strip down soon.

i used to be the same and rode in all weathers and felt much safer on a bike on the snow and ice than i did a car but now im the opposit in that my bikes stop in the garage in winter weathers and its car or bus for me!dont know what changed me as didnt have an off in the snow etc but i deffo wont ride in snow/ice again!

Well I rode in today, the traffic was mostly stopped on the A2 due to a mild blizzard.
I'll take a view on the rest of the week
Cold and dry? OK. Cold/wet/freezing/wet/cold/freezing.... mmmm.

Never driven a car, dangerous things, and i'm a terrible passenger!!
Using up a weeks holiday this week, still got 2 after that to use whenever as well.
Fortunately got a workmate who lives near me who can give me a lift if needs be.

Think my bike's away until the ice goes away, had a twitchy back end most of the way home last night (bike and me). It's just not worth binning my bike when I can get a lift to work, might see if I can get hold of a reliant :rollin

Went down to Lenham Sunday, but had to use my son's R1 as he had just put heated grips on the Fazer and the glue hadn't gone off.
Was a bit worried as the R1 is now his as I gave it to him in November when I bought the Fazer 8 after selling the Fazer 1000 and didn't want to bin it, as last time I got caught in the snow on it I was fine until I was nearly home. However rich Sevenoaks council are mean with their grit and poor bike just couldn't get up the hill on A25 by Crown Point and went splat. No harm done but really annoyed as it was unnecessary if road had been gritted as had come from Chatham no problem :\
Fortunately this time all was well and I was able to return it in one piece, and the heated grips on it worked lol

I'm currently on my 11th winter with no car and even I occasionally look at the wife's freelander as I wheel the bike out of the garage in the freezing cold and think "i wonder if she'd mind if I took it to work just this once". The ride to work confirms that I wouldnt enjoy car commuting one little bit, regardless of weather.
There's normally only about a week or so per year where I 'can't ride' due to snow or obvious ice on the road, belive it or not, Blackpool doesn't get much of either!

My biggest problem is getting the bike out of the street where i live. Once it all turns to ice it's a real pain because the way the street is positioned the sun doesn't touch it 'til mid afternoon, then 2 hours later it's dark, so the ice will remain until the temperature warms up again. The main roads are generally okay.
That's when the bike gets put to bed for as short a while as possible and i sheepishly ask for a lift.

I'm looking at the forecasted temperatures this week and wondering when gritted roads freeze!
