I am planning a trip away with few buddies. one of he party is really keen to go to Sweden. Has anyone been before and give some experiences on road conditions, weather, best time to go, frequency of petrol stations etc.
It does look an amazing place to go to but I am worried about the fazers 200 mile-ish range on tank. The bloke who is keen has a 1200GS adventure with about a 400 mile range so I doubt it will be an issue to him...
Any thoughts appreciated.

I've been twice. A nice experience however the roads are unexciting and the scenery can get repetitive. Allow extra time because you'll maybe be traveling at 50mph. We had a moment one foggy morning: we'd overtaken a car in the morning mist and a deer ran across the road in all directions. Very scary, the more so because neither of us had seen it before it was in front of us darting around. "A collision between a deer and a motorbike is usually fatal for both parties."
Cannot remember any issues with petrol, I think we filled up each time we passed a station, even from half-full.
Summer weather was very hot, so pack plenty of t-shirts. Sweden is about the same price-wise as the UK; Norway is much more expensive.

no worries about fuel until you get to the far north, then just fill up after half tank when you see a station. the GS rider can go whistle. they'll be spending exact same on fuel anyway. havent done the south but the west of the country is in the mountains/hills and the scenery starts to get interesting above the arctic circle.
the birdge to Malmo from Copenhagen is awsome.

At first thought it sounds interesting but I reckon the weather could be shitty and your going to end up eating reindeer sausages at some point. And Sweden reminds me of being dragged round Ikea :o Head south to Spain or France 8)

Thanks for the replies guys, after much discussion and taking what you have said into account we are thinking about going elsewhere. The biggest reason was due to he price of the ferry to Denmark..
We are now thinking Germany and nurburgring etc.
Went to Le Mans last year so we were thinking nurburgring 24 hour this year. We ma do that in cars though and do a tour of Scotland on the bikes.

If you're gonna tour in Scotland take a petrol can - last time I was up there I didn't see a station for hours on end :)

Nurburgring, glad I went but wouldn't go again, it got very expensive by the end of the week, 4 lap ticket was 80 euros 5 years ago. And the restaurant there is shit, crap food and rude staff. Nurburg's a ghost town by 9.00pm, stay in Adenau if you're going, I'd be tempted to camp next time. Actually I'd be tempted to head to southern France where the roads are amazing and free. D999 anyone?

I think the 24 hour race cold be a laugh. as i say i did Le Mans last year. although it was good it was damn expensive. A mate has also tempted me to going to the F1 at Spa. he said the whole weekend cost him the same as one day at Silverstone the year before.
So many options :lol

stick with Scandinavia, go on, dare to be different. yes, ferry is expensive, but you're not exactly far away from Harwich, or Dover unlike we were. the Denmark ferry takes you up to Esbjerg which is level with Dundee (how pissed off do you think we felt living in Glasgow?), or you could ride up through the Netherlands etc.

The ferry for me and my mate with our 2 bikes including a cabin will be nearly £500.. the channel tunnel will be less than £50 each. That kind of saving leaves me much more money for fuel and hotels etc. I would love to go but its just not a cheap week away really. I flew to Slovakia last year for about £130 lol..
We have discussed Wales and Scotland as options as well as Europe so will see what happens.

Done Scotland twice. If you get the weather I have to admit a lot of it is the equal of what we all go to Europe for, but, never got the weather I'm afraid.

Last march was great. Otherwise we're still waiting for last summer to arrive.

Yeh, we did May 2 years on the trot, total washout both times. I've ridden all over Europe in some appalling conditions but the last run home from Scotland over Rannoch moor had me questioning my immortality. :rolleyes
