Please can you all vote for my photo of Urbanswines Kitty 'Blue', it's entered into a competition. There's no details to enter, just a straight forward tick in a box, that's it ;-)
Thank you so much!

There are some great photos in that page.
Why did you chose the one you submitted? I'd have thought it was too close cropped personally (but I'm not a photo - buff, so don't' take it as a criticism). The detail is impressive.
-
Thank you Alan. It's a crop that's favoured by alot of jidges, so i've just kind of gone with it! ;-)
There are some great photos there yes. I think I've left the voting late though as it closes today. It's nice to be chosen as a finalist though :)
-
Voted.
Although there quite a lot of cat pictures on there, yours really stood out.
-
Voted. some very good competition on there though.
-

-
Done. For some reason I got drawn to looking at the reflections in the eyes....
-
Yes, well spotted, sadly the reflections were difficult to disguise! Shhhhhh ;-)
-
Done
Urban loves pussy doesn't he.
-
It appears so, he has rather alot LOL
-
Done ! Best of luck. May I wish you a very merry Xmas and a Happy New Year
Mike
-
Thank you Mike, and merry christmas to you too! :)
-
Doesn't it bother you asking for votes? What if you won? Wouldn't that take the gloss off it?
Just my opinion.

I avoid these competitions like the plague.
The entrant retains Copyright of the image but, by submitting a photo, entrants grant Tate Fuel Oils Ltd the right to reproduce the image in publicity material, on their website, Facebook page and other related sites.
So, you have a company, and you'd like some wildlife pictures on your web site and other corporate material. Well you could try Getty or Alamy where you will pay the going rate for stock images. It'll cost you a good few bob.
Or for a tiny fraction of the cost you could carry out a rights grab photo competition. In this case setting up a web page, using a free online survey provider, and offering a kindle as a prize. Fingers crossed, and this case Tate Oil has won a watch! Bingo - free photos for Tate Oil!
Now note the wording, it's not just the winning photo they get the use of, it's all the photos submitted. And note the vagueness of the wording, they can use the submitted images for pretty much anything they fancy. The use in this case does not even have to relate to the competition.
This is just another shabby shameless photo rights grab.
-
isnt asking someone to vote for you cheating? Surely this just means that the person with the most friends wins as apposed to the best picture???
-
I'm sure everyone is doing the same thing, and er, it's a voting competition? That's the whole idea, getting folk to vote? It's just a bit of fun.
The company are welcome to the photo. It was taken in a situation that was a really nice opportunity for me, so if it did well, then I'd not have any issue with them using it.
I've never entered a ompetition before, but I'm well aware of what companies do with them. If I wasn't happy, I wouldn't of entered it. So surely that's for me to decide? I never give photos away for free, this is the first time, and I did it because of the nature of the shoot, and publicity, not only for me, but for Derek too. So please, feel free to keep bumping Tzcatz :)
-
Not all competitions are the same.
Some competitions actually promote photography, are good for photographers, photography as a whole, offer decent prizes and respect photographers work and copyright.
This is not a photography competition that is in any way good for photography or photographers, it's a simple rights grab from a company that is looking to build an image bank that it can use to promote it's business. In fact the terms are so shoddy and loose I'm not sure that there is anything to stop them selling the images on for others to use. You are in effect sharing your copyright with Tate Oil.
It's not just a bit of fun, this competition and the many others of it's ilk are just one of the many reasons why it is incredibily hard these days to earn a living from photography, or for that matter hold any value or integrity in photography as a whole, not to mention they contribute to the general decline in quality of photography.
Of course sure, you are free to enter, free to give your images away to others, for them to use for their own selfish fiancial gain - it's a free world. But please forgive me if I scream and start tearing my hair out (not that there is much of it left these days :'( ) every-time I come across one of these all too common nasty cheap rights grabs so called competitions.
My tip would be to write to them, state you entered without paying to much attention to the terms, and having done so are shocked to find that you have given your photos away in a 'copyright grab' and want nothing further to do with their competition. It is also worth highlighting such 'competitions' to organisations such as the NUJ etc etc who campaign to stop such abuses and are trying to increase copyright protection in photography.
-
Nothing like putting a dampner on things eh. I have strong beliefs on photographers giving away images too. I have reason to not worry about this one inparticular.
Merry christmas!!!
-
Do you ask other people to vote for you on other forums too?
Do you do the same on the foc.u photo comps which are also 'a bit of fun'?
-
No I don't, on both those questions. I'm sorry if this offends you so much! Look on facebook, you see it all the time. Are they cheats too?
It was just a bit of fun. Please don't spoil it for what it is.
-
Sorry just commenting on what is a clear rights grab.
The so called competition sucks big time.
-
Job done Tori.
-
Andy, they're a company that fill oil tanks in people's gardens. How many Photos of whales do you think they'll use?? Their website shows no animals whatsoever and I very much doubt a rights grab is what this is about.
Thanks to everyone who has looked/voted.
-
vote given. what starts as something fun can end up with u thinkin "why the FOC did i bother" there r more important things in life worthy of negativity tori so dont let it get u down. I VOTED WITHOUT LOOKIN AT THE PICTURE . OUCH!!!!!!
lets see what negative post's that comment brings hahahahahaha
-
Thanks ;-) Nope, still smiling :)

I think they might just be a little bit bigger than that!
The first thing you see when you visit their web site is a picture of a Lizard (or whatever it is) which fits in beautifully with their corporate colours.
It is a rights grab, read the rules, whether these rules have been made up naively or intentionally I do not know. But certainly tossing somebody a kindle for endless photos, competition after competition, that they can make full use of and possibly even sell on is very good value for Tate Oil.
You know it's not that hard to write the rules such that the copyright of the photographers is both respected and protected (they could even offer a decent prize which would be nice) and they would still be able to use the winning images in connection with the competitions on their web site - which makes me ask - why the full rights grab. Are they naive and ignorant of copyright or taking advantage naive photographers in order to build an image bank for their business. I don't know, but I do know I want nothing to do with it.
-
Christ I hope they won't use this competition as a proxy and I end up voting to support commercial whaling/seal clubbing/big game hunting.
Tori, can I retract my vote? :lol
-
Rob, I don't think so! :lol :lol
-

Hey numb-nuts - if I thought that the picture was shite I wouldn't have voted for it - Tori just made me aware she was in a competition and to have a look-see.
Mind you, my kitten has gone missing and I was sent an ear-tuft in the post yesterday - so it's not like I had a choice is it? :lol
-

i bet you,re a laugh a minute at the christmas party arent you
why be so critical ?
it certainly is one of the best on there (beluga whale ,close par :D )
i could understand it if she rode a cbr or ninja :rollin

Errr..... surely politicians ask for your vote, just dressed up in pretty bullish*t.

No she didn't, she said 'please vote for me'. That in my book is canvassing. Had she simply done as you think she did and simply made you aware of the competition then no problem. As someone else said, this simply ends up with the entrant with the most mates winning! That's my point, numb nuts or not! :D

Get over it guys. You are not being forced to vote. If you don't want to support Tori that is your choice but do stop spouting such vitriol.
-
found it eventually you could have said scroll to bottom find "blue" tick then click done, or is that obvious to most peeps.
-
done.............................foc me, just looked in again and cant believe some of the comments
if I can help anyone on here I will, who give s a foc if its actually the best pic, Tori will make or break in her photo career depending on the quality of her shoots, if this is just about "how many mates" then get over it, dont bother voting............you have a choice
if she can get a new ipad by us voting then good on her (and Ive never met her...........so there :b )
-
voted!
I like lots of other pictures as well as Tori's and was interested as to the worldwide entrants
as to all the other stuff, if Tori has read the rules & still wants to enter who are we to say dont do it!
its not like she is competing with me for a share in the £30m that I have been promised by someone in Nigeria n all I need to do for that is give'm my bank details..
-
as for it they with most friends wins,,, this isn't true as I have been on it a 2nd time & its allowed me to vote again (not saying if i voted for Tori or not) but this proves whoever has the most patience or a compter genius friend then the voting could be rigged....
either way there are some good pictures on there!
-
.
-
And I saw Tcats post before he deleted it, and it went along the lines of how much he'd like to shag Chillum up the arse!! :rollin :rollin :rollin
-
TCat........now theres a name from the past :lol

Really? :eek
Hmmmm :o
Oh, go on then :evil
-
Some cracking photo's on there, I think I'll save them all and start a picture bank. Maybe use one in a Foc-u competition :evil .
Only kidding.
Voted, good luck Tori.
-
Holy shamoly!!!!!!! :eek
-
:\ Hi Guys,
Are these photo's still available to see? We have two PCs here and so far we have not been able to open any photo's at all ? (just getting the little red X in a box)
My two Euros worth on asking for votes .. why not .. if we had not been informed of the competition by Tori .. at least half of us would never know about it.
Any advice on getting into the snaps .. much appreciated :)

You should still be able to see the images here: http://www.tateoil.co.uk/blog/autumnwinter-2012-photographic-competition-the-animal-kingdom/ (http://www.tateoil.co.uk/blog/autumnwinter-2012-photographic-competition-the-animal-kingdom/)
Voting has closed now I believe.
It looks like I made the final 20 :) These can be seen here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/68787474@N02/sets/72157632271545673/show/ (http://www.flickr.com/photos/68787474@N02/sets/72157632271545673/show/)
I'm gutted the beluga didn't make the final cut. I now like the tabby cat, the mantis, and my favourite the Emperor penguin and chick.
-
It was a great photo Tori and I voted for it. If you are a great traveller of the world, it's so much easier to find those extraordinary shots. The real difficulty for most photographers is to find something ordinary in your own surroundings and make it look extraordinary - as you did.
Tom
-
I guess there's some logic behind that, and it's very kind of you to say :)
-
I only just noticed someone has given me a santa hat in my avatar!! :lol How festive!!
-
I thought it had always been there!
(so much for observation etc....)
-
It can't have been there all year surely?!! I would of noticed?? Nope, I think admin are playign tricks with the new theme, maybe it changed automatically?

Please can you all vote for my photo of Urbanswines Kitty 'Blue', it's entered into a competition.
