Title: Anyone got a Bagster 1419u fitted? (Gen-1)
Post by: MadDogMcQ on 12 November 2012, 03:26:53 pm
Hi. Anyone got a Bagster (1419u) Tank protector fitted to their Gen-1?

If so, how good a fit is it? I've had quite a few on various bikes and some were a better fit than others.

Photos??  ;)

The Bagster cover fits the Fazer just fine.  Make sure, particularly at this time of year, that the cover is warm (as in at least room temperature) when you fit it and as it settles onto the tank over the following few days gradually take up the slack on the straps.

Justy - The Bagsters have a nice soft lining inside the tank covers so there's no chance of any scratches. Do the Top Saddlery covers have the same? They're certainly a lot cheaper.

yeah.

mines got a sponge like liner on the inside. even got Fazer stitched on the outside either side. ;)

saying that, i might get one for my 600. (if they make one that is?)

Excuse the noob question, but do the Bagster tank covers do anything other than provide something for a tank bag to clip onto? My local has one going cheap which we've already had on my Fazer and it fits like a glove - no bag though...

Had Bagster tank covers for years on various bikes. Well made and fit really well. Colour matches well with the bike. Put a good coating of polish on the tank and make sure the inner lining of the cover is clear of grit/dirt etc to avoid scratches.
Makes fitting a tank bag a doddle. Protects the tank. Gives the knees something to grip onto. Stops the tank from getting seriously hot when left in the sun (France !). Nothing not to like really. Picked mine up on E bay for £35.
Tip - zip tie all the straps ends real tight. Stops them flapping in the wind and makes it harder for theiving s--m to lift the cover off an unattended bike.

a previous owner obviously had a tank cover fitted to mine, the straps had left black marks in the frame which were actually wear marks so would not polish out. i had to sand them down and blow them in. i didn't like that very much, needless and easily avoided.

Hi all, just bought a 54 plate galaxy blue gen1 fazer 1000 4 months ago.I have just ordered one of these to protect the tank and now I have just read they can mark the frame :'( .is this due to poor fitting,or do they all do it.if they do has anybody got any ideas to protect the frame.
Cheers Andy.

put it on. see where the straps sit & take it off & wrap a bit of gaffa/electrical tape round the frame.

thats what id do anyway.

I have used bagster tank covers for last 8 yrs on several bikes...never had any issue with them. They do come up now and again on ebay second hand. The bagster bags are good too, and loads are on ebay. I cant get  find any  second hand  for my GS ...new is £108 :eek ...but bmw tankbags are orrible...so may stump up for one.
Havent noticed any marks on frame paint btw, mine are black rails on the fazer. There is a trade off of looks vs tank protection , paint looks better than vinyl any day. But my 04 silver tank looks brand new after 4 yrs of baglux cover on it !  :)
TBH I wouldnt be without it...
