Asked my local main dealer cost of this & was told approx £300! That was the motivation for me to do it myself and it wasnt difficult-just time-consuming and the AIS system was fiddly to remove/refit. I can see why people remove it altogether now! It was a good chance to check condition of all hoses, jubilee clips, rad etc. Cost of job/ £4-36 for new oil pump cover gasket and slight backache from leaning over & under bike. Sorted :lol

Nice one!
Were they all within spec?

Well done Dave...you're mid way through a mission that I should also be on :(

I had my old bike a Honda VFR800 Vtec.
And the mileage was up to 18K and i took the bike to the Honda main Dealers
to get the valve's checked ( they need doing every 16K ) as it was playing on my mind,
I didn't get a price before getting the job done. silly me.
And nearly fainted when i got the bill £580 :eek .
apparently the heads have to come off and when i got the bill, it did not have
any parts for the shims.
And when i asked the service manager, it did not need any, they where all in tolerance.
That was 3 years ago and i am suffering / still getting reminded off my wife now
every time she buys something out of the savings account.
I certainly have learnt my lesson.

Looked a buying a Triumph Tiger last year, major service every 2 years £518!!!!! Seems running a Triumph is far more expensive than my Fazer......... full service, valves checked, mot, £300. ;)

That price for the VFR was not to bad, I have seen prices up to £750 when there was 5 shims to be changed. Bet you glad you bought a Fazer now :)

Not even going to bother with mine till it gets to 48k as I haven't heard of a single bike that has been out of spec at 24.
