Hello all,
This is my first post in the new forum, but I used to be on the old one (although not a massive poster!)
Yesterday I synchronised my carbs using a Morgan Carbtune Pro (very nice tool by the way). That involved me taking off the tank, disconnecting the fuel pipe, fuel gauge plug, the rail of things underneath (not actually sure what they are) then doing the synchro job.
When I reassembled the whole lot yesterday the bike started up and ran nicely. However I've just tried to start it up and it is making a familiar sound but in a very unfamiliar way. I usually get a few clicks from under the tank after I turn the key (which I gather are made by the fuel pump - it's not the clicking sound a dying/dead battery/ignition relay makes), however now I'm getting a lot more clicks in much more rapid succession.
Has anyone ever encountered this before? I wonder if I've disturbed the fuel pump in some way while I was moving out the rail of things under the tank?

Unless you've got a fuel leak it's perfectly normal. :)

I agree, my fuel pump clicks alot per second.
I think you're being a bit paranoid after the work you did.
Just check for leaks and keep an eye to your mpg.

Turns out I'm a twat.......didn't exactly turn the fuel tap back on after refitting the tank.......... :rolleyes

Your not the first to make that mistake by a long way :( .
The reason it clicks away is that with no fuel to pump it can't build up the pressure which holds the contacts open inside the fuel pump. Top marks for spotting your error :) .

Glad I'm not the only one!
Going through a few jobs on the bike so I'm sure I'll come across a few more. I'll be sure to document them as and when I make em :)

If you dont switch the tap back to the ON position again you will end up taking the bike out for a spin, get about 3/4 of a mile down the road and the bike will stutter, slow and stop, you will then have to call your other half to come out in the car which involves spending ages describing an 8 mm spanner and an allen key to her ,oh and dont forget the torch as its now getting dark and while you wait at the side of the road sweating in your leathers cos youve had to push the bloody thing off the main road you will have time to reflect on what a clumsy twat you really are then when she turns up after what seems like an hour you have to upend the tank and turn the fuel on, possibly at that point remembering that theres a tool kit under the seat but deciding theres no point in mentioning that right now to her, all the while trying to act like it could happen to anyone and happens all the time ,,,oh yes my friend, there are bigger twats than you. :o

I'm now walking back to my bike with a spanner in my pocket hoping I've made the same mistake....or I'm ginna have to go back again for more tools.
Still thank god for mobile Internet so I could look up the symptoms
