Hi All,
I have an FZS600- just so your all sure.... I recently bought some handguards and a universal adapter kit but by the looks of it the kit won't work. The problem is, as you can see in the image.... The bar inside is blocked up by the part the bar ends screw into. Can this part be easily and safely removed? And if so can it be put back in for whatever reason?

My LHS rubber bit on the inside came out once, it's just held in with some brown glue. I assume if you give it a good pull and twist it will come out, then just use some grip glue or similar to put it back in place?

thanks for the help but it doesnt seem to have worked. I cant force anything too much for fear of shearing threads or damaging something else. I'd love to know if someone else has ever taken one off successfully....

Same issue. Bought some Acerbis Dual Road guards and the supplied bolts are too thick. The existing one isn't long enough. Does the inside of the handle bar pull out or not?
Other option is a longer bolt of the same diameter

You probably won't like my solution. I used a small drill to break down the bung, yanked it out and used a bigger drill to clean it all up. Not reversible though.

So drilled the inside of the bar out and left a hollow handlebar?

Oops, I probably should have been clearer:
I went around the outside of the metal centre bit of the bung drilling though the rubber with a small drill bit
then stuck a bolt in into the threaded centre, locked it off and twisted until the bung ripped out (I might have used something else to cut the rubber as well)
then I used a bigger drill bit to scrape the rest of the rubber from the inside of the handle bar, you could probably use something else
Like I said messy but it works, I'm sure there's an easier way though

Best bet would be to try and get a look at a parts microfiche for the bars..
If theyre anything like the Honda ones the rubbers get destroyed while removing and need to be replaced.. They also have some small metal clips that need to be replaced too..

I've got acerbis dual road guards. They come with a kit which includes what I can best describes as an anchor bolt. Slide it inside the handlebar, tighten and the bolt pulls a wedge inside the insert and opens it out, making it tight inside the handlebar.
Shouldn't need new rubbers or clips

Going vy that microfiche it looks like the rubber parts are factory fitted into the bars.. Bit of a bugger really if you drill them out and then later decide to retrofit the original ends back on

the thread is well encased in the rubber, but some liquid foam or gripfill will return it to how it was if necessary - which may be necessary for me....
i drilled it out, took a fair while, some broken drill bits and a bleeding thumb. cleaned out the handlebar, lined up the acerbis dual road, and the hand guard is too big, I won't be able to get full lock on as the edge of the guard will hit the headlight fairing. Using all three spacers, it is almost ok and will bend a bit... Does anyone ever use full lock? (obviously for steering lock but should be ok)
I am now at a (proverbial) fork in the road... Do I continue to try to fit it, or forget it?
Or, new idea: how difficult would it be to bend the tips of the guards? They're only plastic, and do flex a bit. Blow lamp?
Edit, an update:
I gave up. Used a metal based epoxy to refit the screw thread.
Going to sell the hand guards instead. They are on ebay, but if any one from here wants them, let me know and I will end the listing and not charge postage. So that's £50 delivered.
