Title: fairing inserts/internals

lads/lasses 04 gen 1 fazer 1000 .fairing inserts around the fixings are cracked to fu--.any ideas on plastic welding or something .anybody experiencing the same .and don,t say buy new can't afford them .any good fixes out there .can,t afford those carbon ones although they are nice

I also need plastic welding on the bellpan-radial cracks have developed around front mounting holes :'( .Any ideas please?

 did a ;ot of repairs to plastic panels using a soldering iron,the repair was strong as i stood on one of the panels and it did not break,on one panel which was on several pieces i did the welding on both sides,but on the textured panel i only did the rear,i did not add any plastic etc to the repair,if you want you could glue where the cracks are then plastic weld to make it strong

Both teroson & sol x do great two part  plastic repair adhesives. Teroson is available on ebay but sol x products tend to be trade only. I've used both of the above but I prefer the sol x MM adhesive as it is a better value for money product. I've repaired a few sets of these inserts with good results. If I get chance I will be post some cash pics of the repaired panels.

I've repaired plastics with a soldering iron. If you need to add more material then simply melt a cable tie into the break as it's made of the same material. Once dressed and painted it makes a very strong and inexpensive repair. This was for cracks around mounting points or in side panels etc, although I've never tried to re-attach a mounting point completely using this method.

Ive seen an article here about using a soldering iron,complete with pictures


I do believe it is in the hot poop section.

Mine were badly cracked around the mount holes, so I covered mine with carbon fibre look vinyl. A fiddly job around the different angles etc and some use of the hair dryer got nearly all the bubbles out. They are much stronger and look good for an amateur job.
Not a bad result and far cheaper than new panels which will crack again . New inserts s good £45 ish each last time I checked. :rolleyes
