The wheels on my little 125 run-about have started to corrode on the inside and can't hold the air in the tyres (after only 10,000 miles in all but the worst of weather). I was going to buy some replacement wheels from ebay, but there is nothing to say they won't suffer the same fate. I heard powder coating the wheels will resolve the issue. I have also read powder coating wheels can cause them to weaken. Both options will cost the same, so money is not a factor. Have any of you Foccers done this before, and if so, what was your experience?

Is it possible to put tubed tyres on?

I don't know, but I have not long (600 miles) put on a pair of Continental tyres that cost more than the powder coating/new wheels would cost. It would be a waste not to use them and spend said monies on a new tyre set up when the wheels remain f***ed.

Have you allowed for new bearings & possibly disc bolts? Factory disc bolts seem to be made of really cheap steel & are thread locked in so removing the discs is normally enough to destroy them (for me at least).
Think I have had the wheels of every bike I have owned coated if they weren't already but if yours look okay externally I might be tempted to remove the tyres, rub the inner rims down smooth, splat a bit of primer on or primer & colour if you want to be posh then stick tyres back on.

You could take the tyres off and give the rim a good rub with emery/sand paper then buy "tyre rim bead sealer" off evil bay, we use the Rema Tip Top (other makes available :b ) on cages at work, (stuff is like a very runny silicone that dries in about a minute and seals any imperfections on the rim,)seems to hold for about a year, either that or get local tyre repair shop to do it for you.

could you clean the rim up and put tubes in using the tubeless tyres :) ...iam pretty sure ive done this before....just cost you the price of two tubes and a little time ;)

I would get the tyre off, flat off the inside of the rim, mask off the outside, etch primer then spray it with colour a lot cheaper than powder coating.

Agreed it's cheaper, but in my experience does not last anywhere near as long. normal paint chips far to easily.
