Digital gear indicator, how easy/hard are these to fit.my soldering skills are a little suspect so a plug and play loom to connect looks an easier option.I'm guessing someone out there has fitted one,so will know the ins and outs of it. :biker
-
The acumen plug and play loom is just as it says, unplug a conector and plug this in between the conectors, job done. (still have to set it up with the revs etc but you have to do that anyway you fit it. takes a few mins max)
i havent soldered mine in but the instructions you can download are very good and i am told easy to follow if you have basic skills.

Thanks for the input,I'm fed up with looking for seventh gear :rolleyes I will be buying one.
-
yep the plug n play one takes about 10mins to fit and program, or you could go a step further and buy one of christians digital gauges though a lot more involved in fitting, dash to bits, soldering etc
-
Please read my posts under Fazer8. Highly recommend Acumen+Plug&Play Bike-specific loom-No more 7th gear! :rolleyes
-
Interesting posts on the fz8 site,When I buy the indicator I'll be including the plug in loom :thumbup in the order.I also read the post on Christians gauge, not sure I'm up to fitting that,Too much wire snipping and soldering for my liking :eek .

sorry for dragging up an old topic but would my 03 fzs1000 need a Cable Speedo drive upgrade for Acumen DG8 Digital Gear Indicator or just the the plug and play loom ..
-
There is no speedo cable on the FZS 1000-its driven electronically! When I bought my Acumen Digigear I didnt really want to cutinto wiring loom to splice in wires so bought a bike-specific "plug & play" loom from Acumen (about £50inc p&p). All you have to do is remove the multipin connector that feeds the speedo, tacho etc and connect the plug & play-10 mins work-and if you sell the bike its easy to return to standard again. :D

I have one of these fitted on mine

Got it from here:- http://www.vmaxbitz.co.uk/ (http://www.vmaxbitz.co.uk/) if you click the picture it takes you to the ebay link.
Works fine, and as you say get fed up with looking for that 7th Gear

New (Boxed never fitted) Datatool Digi Gear Indicator for for Sale in 'For Sale' Section
PB
SOLD. Thank You :)

could you tell me what you guys have used and where you have fixed the the indicator to the dash. I was hoping to place between the speedo and rev counter, doesn't seem to be enough flat surface for velcro and not sure if it would hold.

I used to have an Acumen which was mounted like this.

The mount was made by a former fazer member and not myself BTW
Might give you some ideas.

fitting is easy, mounted the gear indicator using the nut bolt from the fairing screen.
made a bracket from aluminium and used a template from a cornflakes box to get the right angle.
the wiring side is very easy and is all done on the right hand side side panel under the seat by the fuel pump.
which is just a white triangular plug which you need to connect using the male and female plugs in the wiring
loam of the gear indicator and also a switchable ignition feed from the + side of the rear brake pedal brown cable.
and a pulse signal from the pick up coil grey or white cable depending of year fazer 1000 you have got.
these are all near the fuel pump.
