Title: engine tuning
Post by: bludclot on 30 September 2011, 12:57:22 pm

what wisdom is there about tuning our engines? i haven't seen anything other than ivanising - which is pretty much unique for a forum. there's usually at least a few that have overbored, balanced and lightened etc...

Not many tuned examples about with engine work.

You could probably get high comp pistons or go nitrous but don't think the clutch will take more than 150hp without expiring.

Ivan's jetkit with a full Akra or Muzzy header system seems to be the limit for road use - about 140hp.

I reckon it's fast enough as it is.  A Fazer 1000 really doesn't need any more BHP.  Had mine Ivanised by Mike G and it's perfect for the road.

The world is your oyster as far as tuning goes, I think Devilsyam had one making about 170bhp.

TTs do a big bore kit (1050 IIRC), you can get the head gas flowed and skimmed, re-profiled or new cams, slotted cam wheels, flat side carbs, Nos etc etc.

A lightly tuned engine (135-140 bhp) can tie the standard chassis in knots if used really hard.

I would say upgrading your suspension and brakes (maybe some carbon wheels) plus the usual Ivans / pipe set up is the best compromise for road use, and thats why so many on the forum have similar setups.
