Hi all, there's one thing which REALLY drives me nuts about some Yamahas and that's those bright blue parts of the caliper which look out of place on anything but a blue bike.
I notice the new Tenere has gold ones. Are they interchangeable or what?
I know it's only a little thing, but I also know it will bug the life out of me, lol.

Yes they are interchangable, and I know what you mean I have Silver spots on my Red & Black Gen 2, right out of place with the Gold forks, just bought some Gold spots to replace them. The 2012 models are fitted with the Gold spots,
I think they must of made to many as they were originally fitted to the Warrior,
You can actually by a tool from a guy on ebay that removes the centres only, you could than get them re-anodised any colour you want.

any colour you want is only some careful masking, priming and colour coating away.....
the advice on this forum before has been not to undo the blue caliper 'stoppers' as they are required to provide a seal, but so long as a proprietry sealer is used when they are put back in and they are tested thoroughly i don't see why not...
replacement calipers, when they come up for sale, are generally quite exepensive. the blue spots have a very good reputation don't you know.

They are the back of the brake cylinder. The force on them during braking is enormous so they're bonded in pretty firmly.
You'll be lucky to get them out and in without buggering up the threads.
I'd leave well alone. If it bothered me I'd paint them matt black to match the rest of the caliper or get some complete gold or silver ones on eBay rather than risk wrecking them.

Good info guys. On eBay I've just found some "Yamaha Blue Spot Caliper Plugs" which push into the spots and cover them. They're silver (which is fine) and only £4.95

Respray the bike blue :D as we all know there are two advantages to this :-
1. You will solve your original problem
2. You will make the bike faster (ask any blue fazer owner)
any backing on this would be apprieciated

Hi Guys, not been on here for a while, just to clarify things the removal tool unscrews the centre blue spot anodised piston removal cover, underneath this there is a rubber seal, no sealing compound is used by Yamaha on assembly. This is the only way to access all 4 pistons if one of the piston seals leaks, so it is designed to be removed for servicing if required.

as for them silver plugs, wasnt devilsyam selling something like them?
more to the point the brakes, i have no problem with the colour, they dont look out of place. just like the official crash bobbin plates ;)

To (hopefully) lay this discussion about which is the fastest colour to rest: the answer is, in a dispersive medium like air, longer wavelengths of light have the higher velocity i.e red is fastest. Though, I suppose those of a philosophical nature might argue that, since black is the absence of light, its speed is infinite. In an experiment the black could be said to have been present the instant the test started, there's just a sort of Schrodinger's cat situation while you wait for confirmation that no light was sent.
None of this has any bearing on the speed of your bike of course. Nor does it stop red bikes looking a bit naff.

Mr Fazerider, that is interesting stuff about Black being the fastest. I sometimes go out with a mate on a Black one and it is so slow i sometimes think it must be a 400?
