Title: Chain cleaning

My chain could do with a good clean. Do I need to remove the rear hugger or is it easier to try and work around it? I have a 2002 model.

might be worth taking it off so you can clean any old crud off of it. what do the rest of you guys use to clean the chain that really works without damaging the rubber seals?

I've always used WD40 to clean the chain. It breaks down the oil gunge nicely. Doesn't affect the o-rings. Wipe it off with a rag. Then a wipe over with Scotoil and run a Scotoiler on it. Lovely.

take it for a 15min ride first to soften up all the oil grease etc for cleaning

your old tooth brush


or a stiff paint brush


or a bottle brush


paint brush is best tbh. you don't need to go nuts on it.

i use a couple of cheap nail brush's. easy to use on the chain and work the dirt off fast. I want to say i use parafin to clean it but now i say that im not 100% sure thats what i use and i cant be arsed to go dig it out of the cupboard to check lol

I use white spirits & an old paint brush with half the bristles chopped off. No, not the left half or the right half, the first half of all the bristles.  :look

WD40 always...its great for cleaning , and being a water disperser and lubricant , wont harm the chain.Some guys just use wd as a lubricant too.. :)

And it gets grease/oil/grass stains off your clothes as well.
