Title: R6 Upgrade shock - looking for top bush
Post by: Philk on 16 June 2024, 01:16:47 pm
About 14 years ago I followed some advice on here and did the rear shock upgrade, with an R6 shock made in 2008. This has to be the strongest reason I still own the bike and exported it to Germany when I moved a few years later.
Fast forward to a few weeks ago I'm down the local TUV station (think MOT) and I escape by the skin of my teeth with a pass, with an advisory on the top bush of the shock. I've now removed the shock and extracted the knackered bush only to find no one seems to supply the dam things as replacements.
I notice Yamaha don't list this bush as an individual part (where as they did for the original Fazer shock) and Ohlins are no use at all (at least online).
Can anyone save the day by pointing me in the right direction of what will work here?

Hi,

I’ve had a Quick Look on Fowlers parts as below for a top bush for a 2005 R6 and you’re right, they don’t seem to list the top bush as a separate item, only the bottom.

However, I recently had my Ohlins rear shock off and took it to MH Racing.

I had a similar issue, play in the top shock mount. Mark serviced it and fitted a new top bush for me. He’s an Ohlins service agent, so they are obtainable from Ohlins (for an Ohlins shock at least).

Not suggesting that you use Mark from where you are obviously, merely that they are available.

Hope you get sorted. 👍

Supplies of the 2008-2016 shock are still plentiful, would it not be cheaper / less hassle just to replace the unit?

This crossed my mind, but how much can a 25mm long piece of rubber be? (Can press it in myself so no labour charges to consider) plus sometimes it is better the devil you know (I hope). Most the shocks I've seen the last couple of days are around the 100 quid mark with unknown history. This is at least option B if all else fails.

@SkidT

Thanks for the pointer, I've exchanged Emails with Mark this morning and I'm waiting further confirmation.  :)
I'll keep a track of progress here when I know more.
