Title: No electrics
Post by: BrianPalfrey on 05 April 2023, 07:44:43 pm
I'm really in need of some help.
The bike was starting as normal yesterday morning. All dash lights come on when key was turned.
When I pressed the ignition button it was delayed and I let do just as I heard it start to spark
When I let go the whole bike went black.
I'm getting no power at all to the dash and nothing from ignition
I have check all the fuses and they are all OK (even the 30amp)
I have tried another battery and still the same.
What could it be and what can I do to get it fixed?
Thanks for any advice

If it is the 600, Lift the tank, open the black box and check the main power connector to the ignition switch, (a 2 wire red connector). Common to have corrosion from arcing might look burned and will kill the power to everything

My bike had total power failure a few months ago and it was caused by a Starter Relay that had gone wrong. Situated right next to the battery.

I ordered an aftet market starter relay off ebay. It turned up with 15 amps fuses in it and when I messaged the seller he claims its ok and works.

Do I install it or send it back?

Hi Brian.

Starter solenoid relay should be a 30A fuse & a spare 30A ... have you done any tests to confirm old starter solenoid has failed?
I suggest you pull all loom connectors apart & check for corrosion & clean all earth points before firing the parts cannon.

Hey gaz. I'm really have no idea if I'm being honest. I don't know how to check the one currently on the bike.
You are also on about checking the connectors and although I'm sure it's easy enough. I don't know how to check them properly or hoe to check earth points..

I'm totally winging it

How much did you pay for this, because that sounds familiar to the one I bought that literally fell apart in 18 months?

I was a cheap on3. Sent it back and got an official one from someone on fb.

I,however, have tried all I can and the bike is still fucked..
Going to sell spare and repairs

If you care about the bike it sounds a little premature to condemn it. Some basic continuity checks are in order. But I suppose if electrics aren’t your thing it can be frustrating. You could start by physically checking and cleaning associated connectors. Make sure the the earth points are clean. Or just sell it!
