i own a 2004 FZS 1000, question is are the wheels originally finished in satin black or gloss, or a form of jap bike semi -gloss black I've heard of, a sort of mid way between the two? P.S. that last bit could be bullshit someone has told me. :rolleyes

Thats a coincidence DD. spent the affternoon tidying up my wheels. Paint had started peeling in places so as i temp repair i patch painted a few areas.I used satin black plasticote spray paint. not fully dry yet but seams to be a very good match, if i get time tomorrow i`ll take and post a piccie.

Had mine powder coated in satin black. Looks good to me but I think the original was slightly more glossy.

The 2 times I had this done the coating has not lasted (the longest was 2 years), so with both paces I used were sh*t or PC isnt all its cracked up to be.

Best to use a PC that's been recommended. Mine were done gloss black almost 3 years ago and have held up well, considering the firm was just a general powder coater not necessarily specialising in bike parts. I've since found a specialist firm that removes/refits the tyres as well as renewing the bearings, which would have been handy as the needle roller bearing gave me a load of grief.

Must have been a dodgy PC. First one I used were cheap and crap and had to have both wheels redone by a firm specialising in bike parts. Well over 2 years ago and two sets of tyres fitted and still spotless.

Pictures as promised..sorry no before shots. Possibly a bit too satin. A cheap easy way to smarten up your wheels.

Very nice, looks like OEM. What prep work did you do on the weels? was it just the rims you did..?

hi b1k3rdude.....Nothing special, bit of a rush job really. Got rid of the old flaky paint with a bit of 120 grit sand paper then 2000 wet and dry. no primer but straight on with the plasticote. covers well and just one coat. Will be going back to this during the winter, Wheels out, tyres off , full strip and re-paint. my fzs 1000 is silver so i might do the wheels silver to match, will take more pictures when i do :thumbup
