Title: Starter not working
Post by: festerbestertester on 07 January 2022, 02:29:51 pm
Came to start the bike this morning and there is no noise from the starter motor or the fuel pump. The battery is fine, fuses okay and lights work. Would appreciate any advice.

Have you checked the red "engine on/off" button on the right hand switch?

Sounds like the kill switch is "off"

If the oil light comes on when you press the start button, this just about proves the kill switch is the issue.
If the oil light doesnt come on, it could be the starter button but as you dont have the fuel pump priming either, my money is on the kill switch.

Thanks. Just hope it’s dry tomorrow and I will investigate

Someone correct me if it's a stupid idea, but I also think it might be the kickstand switch. Instead, or along with the kill switch. It's worth checking at least.

That thing cuts off the electricity when the kickstand is down - there's a small switch that the kickstand presses when it's retracted (if memory serves me correctly).
The switch shouldn't work when the bike is in neutral, only when it's in gear.

Bike was in neutral. When I switch the ignition on the neutral light the aisle light charger light oh come on but the charge light and I light go off immediately neutral stays on. Hopefully it will stop raining soon and I can check the switch. Do wish I had a garage!

Supposed to be a better day tomorrow and I can get a meter on the switch

Bike was in neutral.

The bike may well be in neutral, but the switch shorts out due to corrosion and thinks it's in gear.  I'd also check the clutch switch on the handle bar ;)

Failing that start looking at starter relay, or the starter itself.

I have no continuity with the side stand either up or down.
 Is it goosed?

Sounds like it, is the plunger moving?  If not sometimes you can free the plunger off with WD or such like, but it's likely it's very corroded internally.  Loop the switch out which will get the bike running and replace the switch.  ;)

Trace from the switch back up the frame to the loom where there should be a plug and disconnect that.

Check continuity to the switch on its own, also try starting without the switch connected and then with a connection across the loom plug.

Solved. Intermittent cut-off switch,
corroded starter switch, and side stand switch.

There is no charging light on the Foxeye 600. If it's the red light in the tacho you are seeing, thats a coolant high temp light.

Side stand switch is repairable as you can open it and clean it.

Side stand switch replacement/repair is an engine out job or you could follow instruction here   https://foc-u.co.uk/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=66    and not take the engine out  :lol
