After trashing my old boots last year in a spill, I thought I'd treat myself to a nice pair of waterproof touring boots and the ones that came out at the top of my budget were the rather aptly named Alpinestar Hydro Sport Drystar.
With a name like that, how could I possibly go wrong! (all boxes ticked...)
Currently on my second pair, first pair went back quite quickly as they leaked straight away so were replaced under warranty. Second pair let go this week in a torrential downpour on the way to work.
Anyone got any suggestions for boots that do what they say on the advertising? Couldn't get on with Altbergs (the first choice) as they were too narrow in the gusset and didn't want to wait 4 months for a made to measure pair.

Had some Sidi Black Rain which were great. Don't know if you can sttill get them. I think they're now called B2 Gore Black.
I now have a pair of Daytona Spirit XCR boots and they appear to be waterproof. they're also leather, which I prefer over plastic, ooops Lorica.

iv got alpinestar drystar after having sidi black rain these feel like carpet slippers and although iv only been cought in the rain twice aprox total of 50 miles they havent let a drop in :\
-
Sidi B2 Goretex
Had them a month
Took about 3 weeks to break in and 1 roll of plasters for my toes :\ but are (now) very comfortable and supportive. My feet are wiiiide though :)
Been out in 2 torrential downpours and feet are bone dry.
I always pull my trouser legs down over the tops of my boots so only the lower foot part is exposed though.
Look cool as and bit more understated than the Sidi Vertigo's.
Recommended.

Hein Gericke have never failed me. There gore tex boots are superb rode brought some serious rain and snow with them.
-
another +1 for Sidi, couldn't say what they're called, but have goretex in them and never leaked (in scottish torrential rain)
Although I also have trousers down over the tops, so only bottom open to the elements
-
My cheap Aldi boots have never leaked even in torrential rain.
-
TCX Goretex ones, the race rep ones (http://www.tcxboots.com/eng/prodotti-dettaglio.php?prodotto=5) lasted me four years of constant abuse (snow, hail, rain, salt, one Renapur a year...) and were still waterproof, just replaced them with a pair of Infinity (http://foc-u.co.uk/www.tcxboots.com/eng/prodotti-dettaglio.php?prodotto=10) which is more or a touring style.
Some decent deals on Fleabay at the minute too.
:thumbup

TCX Infinity for me, bloody great.
-
I bought Puma Gore-tex boots when I took up biking four and a half years ago and they're still doing a great job even last Sunday when it absolutely bucketted it down!
-
Spada Slipstream.
Never leaked a bit, had them a couple of years now, very comfy, and I ride in all weathers all year round.
Best bit though, about 80 quid or so. Bargain :D

My Oxtars (TCX) are still going strong, never leaked a drop.
-
Dainese Goretex. I've ridden through extensive downpours, including Scandinavian deluges, and they've never let in a drop. I've even been for a paddle in the sea. Had them about 6 years and they're still doing the job.
-
I've been riding in these, pretty much every day for the best part of 3 years, in all sorts of weather.
It was tipping it down on my commute today, nice dry toes when I got to work....I'll be buying these again when they wear out!

Got a pair of Alpinestars Web Goretex which are absolutely superb. I have worn these for four years and about 25 thousand miles and they are totally waterproof.
Had a spill in them last year and they saved me serious injury.
The only slight problem is the tread is quite warn so i have to be carefull when putting my foot down in the wet.
Just bought a pair of Hein Gericke ankle boots that look like trainers which are goretex so hoping they will be as waterproof as the Alpinestars

Thanks for the replies, should have asked before buying :'(
Never mind, funnily enough I "borrowed" a pair of Sidi Black Rains from my son in law who had them for a while but they has seen better days.
They didn't leak much but seem to have had the guts knocked out of them. The AlpineStars are comfortable enough, just thought they would keep out the water a bit better,,,,
-
I've got a pair of frank Thomas boots which have seen a couple of downpours since I've had them all leather and was on cheap offer from j&s when they took over ft £50 I paid but at the time there was 3 pairs of boots from different manufacturers that was the same Alito,ft,and another one ,still dry feet after 4 months and comfy too

I have a pair of Teknic <ahem> Violator boots. Very comfy to walk in and easily accomodate my chubby overdeveloped calf muscles, they are warm, totally water proof and look cool.
I wouldn't reccomend them though, after three years the left one started to fall apart and what I thought was an all over leather upper turned out to be a patchwork of leather, cordora and a plasticky material glued and stitched together. No good at all.
I had a pair of Sidi Rains a few years ago and just like a mate of mine found that they stink very badly after a very short time, mine lived on the back doorstep until I put them on ebay.
If you can live with the dire styling then Altberg Clubmans are the ones, I had mine well over 10 years and no leaks.
-
I don't recommend oxford boots, they leak and crack.
I'm currently using Weise haven't used in the rain yet, but the heel started falling off, less than a year old.
I don't have much luck in the boot department.
-
Sidi boots - i think 'Tepor' but i cant find the name on them... judging by this mornings commute pretty good at being waterproof.

I've got a pair of W2 Tour-11s. They're now my main boots. Very comfortable. Only problem is that as wet-weather boots you're going to end up with stinky feet if you're in them for more than a couple of hours.

Some are worse than others, the Teknics have a faint whiff of training shoe after an hours wear whilst the Sidi Rains honk like the contents of a dead cat's bladder.
A ladies stocking filled with (not ironically) cat litter pellets and stuffed in the boot every night does help this problem. (but not Sidi Rains alas)

I have a pair of ALDI motorcycle boots - cost £29.99 I think and they are 18 months old and have NEVER leaked a single drop
Quite impressive really as I wear them most of the time on the bike and they are really comfortable
-
Another vote here for TCX Oxtars. Very comfy and bone dry, even in the bath!! :b
-
Might pop down to Aldi next time they have a M/C sale,,,,,,
-
Unfortunately you literally just missed the M/C sale - it may be worth popping down your local one to see if have any left in the relevant section
-
My black Sidi goretex were great for the first year, but after that they started leaking around the toes.
-
I have Sidi B2 Gore-Tex boots. Never had any problems yet
-
My Sidi's were good leaked at toes too after a while, you don't get a lot of sole for your money, i am sometimes off the bike walking about.
-
possibly not relevant anymore, but check out Halvarsson winter boots. I have a pair, done 35k in them, never let in one bit of water, steel plate in the foot, great shin armour.
even ridden through floods with my feet underwater for a few hundred metres, and fine. snow storms - fine.
in fact, anything by halvarsson is a win in my book.
-
If you like the boots you have look on Ebay for ex army Goretex boot liners- for a few quid they made my tourers water resistant- at least my feet were dry
-
I've got Oxtar boots - had them since 2003 - never had a drop of water get through, and they've been in some pretty crap weather for a good few hours, brilliant in the snow too :) good grip and comfy.
Think they are less than £100 too.
-
Spada STp1 for me been brilliant in all weathers dry and warm as a camels arse. Very comfy and always get good reviews 8)
