Title: Fzs600 exhaust headers
Post by: spider on 03 August 2021, 06:55:55 am
Got my 1999 exhaust headers welded £180 lasted about 1year. Don't want to waste more money. Now going the stainless steel route. What one fits perfect and what one is best thats stronger than a baked bean tin

If you can find them Motad, even secondhand they are/were the best.  Nowadays You've got Delkevic, Blackwidow or Lextex, there's probably a few more, the former are pretty good I've got no idea about Lextex.

I have used Delkevic and Black Widow on my last two FZS600's. Both seem ok. If anything, the black widow ones were marginally easier to fit but only about 5 mins in it.

What about micron?
They went bust in 2008 so unlikely to be selling downpipes for an FZS600 still

Micron were fine.

Still trading in the US I believe.

They worked, but they where a race/performance brand, thinner material and build quality was at times poor.  Requiring a lot of pushing, bending and swearing on occasion, their last downtubes serpent were really bad :rolleyes

They also didn't stand up to winters that well.

I had a full Micron system on my old 600, never had any problems with it. (Apart from not polishing it often enough!)

You was the lucky one then :D

I fitted about 7 or 8 systems back in the day, all them had issues to some extent or another, mostly fit/finish, which probably had some bearing on the fact they no longer trade in the UK, I'm told.  Motad just fitted first time, every time, I fitted at least 20 odd sets of down tubes.

As said Micron worked just, not in my opinion as good as Motad.  Motad's demise issue, was I think partly due to the fact their end cans were somewhat industrial, quiter and more power restrictive compared to the competition although very well made an more expensive.  They did I think launch a sport range but still lacked the looks of the competition and never really took off.  Their stuff was all made in the UK, which just couldn't compete with cheaper imported manufactured items of their competitors, a very, very common story sadly.
