Does anybody have or know where I can get a tps for my gen1 thou? Cheapest I've seen online is around £170. (ouch)

Yamaha Fzs 1000 TPS 4XY-85885-00 assembly is the same as   Suzuki  13580-21F00  assembly which are usually cheaper

 You need to swap around two wires to get it to work on the 1000 I have been using one on my own since I posted that
